Key facts:
• Inaugurated on 28 June 2014, Singapore Sports Hub is the
preeminent sports and leisure venue in the South Asia region.
• At the center of the Sports Hub is the new 55,000-seat
National Stadium, the first stadium in the world custom
designed to host athletics, football, rugby and cricket all in
one venue, and converting from one mode to another within
48 hours. It features a retractable roof measuring 300 m in
diameter.

Challenge:
• To ensure spectators at the National Stadium are also housed
in comfort in stifling heat.
• To improve the energy-efficiency of the bowl cooling system
at the National Stadium.

Solution:
• To ensure spectator comfort, a unique and innovative air
cooling system was developed to circulate cool air under the
spectator seating.
• The air handling units (AHUs) for reducing the temperature
were supplied by France-based CIAT.
• Air-handling units regulate and circulate air as part of a
heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. More
than 200 CIAT AIRTECH air handling units have been installed
at the Singapore Sports Hub.
• The energy-efficiency of AHUs can easily be improved with
the help of AC drives to control the operating speed.
• For the Singapore Sports Hub, CIAT chose VACON NXL AC
drives supplied by their long-term partner Vacon France.

• With 220 VACON NXL drives at the National Stadium, the Vacon
