This document provides information about dance lessons and extracurricular activities at Crookhorn school. It outlines what students need to bring to dance lessons, procedures for injuries or missing kit, units of work covered, and opportunities to participate in competitions like Rock Challenge, Red Cross Physical Theatre, and the National Schools Dance Competition. For the dance competition, students can enter any dance style by 27 January for the chance to advance to regional finals on 27 March and potentially the national finals in July. The goal is to get at least one Crookhorn team to the national finals in 2017.
2. Start of the lesson
■ Come straight into Perfoming Arts
■ Go quietly into the changing rooms and change
quickly
■ When you are changed come out and sit down in
your circle ready to start the lesson
3. What kit do I need?
■ Black or Navy BlueTracksuit, Dance
Trousers or leggings
■ A black t shirt – girls,
Fitted t-shirts are fine
■ No socks!
4. If you are injured
■ You must bring a note and give it to me
before going into the changing rooms.
■ You will still be involved in learning so
don’t expect an lesson off.
■ No kit + No note = Faculty Detention

the National Finals where we performed
at the O2 in London and were judged by
Diversity!
■ We also won, most emotive performance
and outstanding performance skill.
11. What isThe National Schools
Competition?
■ It is a dance competition open to all primary and secondary
schools in England.
■ There are 3 competitions
– Primary Schools
– Key Stage 3 –Years 7-9
– Key Stage 4 and 5 –Years 10-13
■ Crookhorn is very successful at National Level.
■ In 2015 we got a KS4 team to the National Finals who placed
15th.
■ In 2016 we got a KS3 team to the National Finals who placed
3rd!
12. How to take part
■ Don’t worry if you’ve never danced before – lots of our best
dancers only danced for the first time inYear 7!
■ You can enter any dance you like in any style to any music
providing the words are appropriate!
■ Get a group together, use the theatre or the studio to create
your performance. See MissWilliams if you’d like her to watch
your dance so far for feedback.
■ If you’d like an older student to help you create either all of your
performance or just to offer occasional advice, please see Miss
Williams and she’ll assign someone to your group.
13. When does the dance have
to be ready
■ You have until 27th January to get your dance recorded by Miss
Williams to be sent off for the first round of competition.
■ You can still continue to make changes and improvements to
your dance before the regional finals.
14. What happens after the
videos are sent off?
■ After the videos are sent off, the selection panel decide who is
through to the regional finals. Last year we got 8 teams
through to this stage, this year we’re aiming for 10!
■ Regional Finals are in Swindon on Monday 27th March 2017
■ National Finals are in July
It is our mission to get at least one team to the national finals in
