• The internet has come a long way since the first electronic
  message was sent in 1969. It has evolved to become an
  indispensable part of our daily lives. Talking about the internet
  numbers, India has close to 65 million active users today, and
  if a research conducted by JuxtConsult is to be believed, 4 out
  of 5 English-speaking urban Indians have been entangled in
  the World Wide Web. Spurred by an increase in cheaper
  internet devices and affordable broadband plans, the internet
  has penetrated all aspects of our lives. Business today
  depends a lot on the internet especially when it comes to
  marketing and reaching out to customers. In contemporary
  times, every aspect of business has a virtual arm, and it is
  only natural that the HR and recruitment teams of companies
  spot its place in the vast interlinked network of the internet.
   Networking over the social media has evolved from..

• merely serving as a platform to finding old friends and making
  business connections and associations. In today’s connected times,
  it is seen that almost every internet-savvy person has a social media
  presence, and this is used as an opportunity by the recruiters to do a
  background check on potential employees.
  This further draws me closer to the questions: is web presence a
  boon or a bane? The answer is yes and no! Even though it gives a
  person the necessary and required presence and exposure to head-
  hunters, it can also work against a potential employee if he/she puts
  forth loose or banal information online, contrary to his/her real life
  personality.
• Let us understand in detail how social media is advantageous.
• 1) Job candidates can be searched geographically with higher
  accuracy than ever before, narrowing the number of candidates and
  adding to recruitment effectiveness.
• 2) Thanks to social media’s high usage rate and immediate
  response...

• 3) Social media recruitment has a low cost when seen from the high
  roI prospective.
• 4) A huge number of social media users are college students, thus
  creating a great platform for potential companies to attract fresh
  talent for entry level positions.
• 5) Access to the cream level of job candidates is faster, helping a
  company’s ability to attract talent versus competitors.
• 6) It also helps in increasing the employer’s brand visibility online
  and establishes a leading-edge image for the brand.
• 7) Open positions can be seen and read by a larger number of
  qualified candidates, thus making job hiring process a delightful
  experience.
• Having said that, like everything, there are two sides of this coin too.
  Talking about the recruitment in social media from the candidate’s
  point of view, one might not be able to use social media for his/her
  professional advantage

• As scouring of one’s social media page can throw
  up some details that one would like to keep away
  from the recruiter’s eye.
  To wrap it all, one needs to be careful about the
  kind of matter one scribbles on his/her digital
  profile, and the kind of comments that he/she
  makes online. One also needs to be discern in the
  choice of communities he/she joins. All this is
  imperative, as recruiters today are prone to do a
  background check on a potential employee, to see
  whether the said person is on the same page as
  the organization's culture or not.
