“Providing Accurate Answers”
• Frequently Asked Questions about
Mold:
• What is “Assessment” ?
• What is “Mitigation” ?
• What is “Remediation” ?
13“Providing Assessments, Mitigation & Remediation”
Question
• Are Buildings “Safe” After they
have been “structurally dried out”
after a water loss? Yes or No ?
14
According to the
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation…
• After a flood or major leak, mycotoxin levels
are higher in the building even after it has
dried out.
• The main problem with the presence of mold
in buildings is the inhalation of mycotoxins.
15
What Are Mycotoxins?
• The term “Mycotoxin” is derived from both the Greek
and the Latin meaning “fungus” & “poison”.
• Mycotoxins are produced by some molds, (not all).
• Mycotoxicosis is the term used for poisoning associated
with exposures to mycotoxins.
16
Are pets susceptible to the effects of mold?
• According to veterinarians,
animals can become ill or die,
from exposure mold mycotoxins.
• Animals can drink contaminated
stagnant rain water from gutter
systems; or, from surface water
“run off”.
17
Respiratory problems related to mold
• Infants may develop respiratory
symptoms such as a persistent cough
and or wheeze. as a result of exposure
to a specific type of fungal mold, called
Penicillium.
• Damp indoor environments are
correlated with upper respiratory tract
symptoms such as coughing, and
wheezing in people with asthma.
• People with chronic lung illnesses, may
suffer more severe reactions when
exposed to mold.

25
Characteristics of Sodium Hypochlorite
• Sodium hypochlorite is a strong oxidizer and corrosive, it can
be very destructive to buildings & contents.
• Sodium hypochlorite can produce highly toxic gases when
exposed to organic materials when combined with
sulfactiants. concentrations rose 8-52 times for Chloroform,
and 1-1170 times for Carbon Tetrachloride.
26
• Structures are being built to higher
energy efficiency standards today.
• More advanced technology is
available for diagnostics.
• Media coverage of mold has
drastically increased in part due to
litigation factors.
29
Are Mold Issues Getting Worse?
Personal Protective Equipment:
Typical One Piece Protective Suite
•
• Microscopic particles are restricted
by the fabric of the protective suite.
• Suits come in chemical resistant or
more “breathable” fabrics.
• This full coverage suit comes with
elastic wrists, boots, hood, and
zipper front.
31
Personal Protective
Equipment: Typical : Gloves
• Nitrile gloves are essential in
providing an aseptic
environment.
• Gloves may be categorized as
“waterproof” and or, “chemical
resistant”.
• Gloves are available in varying
material thicknesses.
32
Personal Protective Equipment:
Typical Shoe Covers & Boots
• These types of shoe covers
have slip resistant “grippers” to
increase traction and help
reduce slipping.
• Note: many of the PPE suites
fabric becomes very slippery
when used in a damp or wet
environment.
• Some environments require the
use of chemical resistant, and
or steel toe footwear.
33
Personal Protective Equipment:
Typical N95 Protective Masks
• The “disposable” particulate
respirator shown is a Type
N95. This particular mask has
an “exhalation valve”.
• The 3M N95 respirator does
not have an exhalation valve
and is a very basic and
economically priced respirator.
34
Personal Protective Equipment:
Typical Half Face Protective Masks
• Half face respirators offer the
advantage of being able to utilize a
wide range of replaceable filters.
• Half face masks can be more
comfortable than disposable masks.
• Half face masks generally provide a
better seal around the facial area
than disposable masks.
35
Personal Protective Equipment:
Typical Full Face Protective Masks
• Two slightly different variants of
Full Face Respirators. (No Filters
Shown). Four strap model.
• An advantage of a Full Face
respirator is that eye protection is
incorporated into the system.
(Filters pictured). Six strap model.
36
Personal Protective
Equipment:
Respirator Filters
• There are hundreds of
respirator filters on the
market.
• Selecting the correct filter
is critical to worker safety.
• Filters are very specific
and limited in their
capabilities.
37
Personal Protective Equipment:
Power Air blower
• Power air blowers makes
breathing easier.
• A significantly cooler work
environment .
• Workers can wear PPE for
longer periods of time.
38
Visible mold pictured on
wall surfaces
• Various pictures of mold on
sheetrock.
• There are multiple species of
mold pictured, one species
on top of another.
39
HEPAAir Scrubbers
• Different models of HEPA air
scrubbers pictured.
• Different models vary in
their capacity's to “clean” or
“scrub” the air.
• Air scrubbers remove
particulate matter from the
air i.e. “mold spores”.
40
HEPA Vacuums
• Specially designed HEPA
vacuums are engineered to
reduce the level of airborne
contamination during
remediation.
• HEPA Vacuums may be
used to remove mold as a
preliminary step in the
remediation process.
41
Portable dehumidifiers
• Portable dehumidifiers come in a
variety of sizes and capacities.
• The portable dehumidifiers shown
are designed to be used within
the building envelope. The
wheels and handles facilitate
maneuvering.
• There are significant
performance variances in
dehumidification equipment.
42
Large desiccant dehumidifiers
• Are used for large scale drying
operations because of their
enhanced drying capacity.
• Due to their large size desiccant
dehumidifiers are generally
permanently mounted to trailers,
and placed outside of buildings.
43
Five Different types of tests for mold
1. Air Sampling
2. Tape Lift Sampling
3. Swab Sampling
4. Dust Collection Sampling
5. Bulk Materials Sampling
44
Mold Sampling: Air Sampling
• Top right picture shows taking air samples
from the inside of a wall cavity.
• Bottom right picture shows taking air
samples in a living room environment.
45
Mold Sampling: Tape Lifts
• A common method to
determine what types of
fungi are present (if any).
46
Mold Sampling: Swab Method
• This method is used
to determine if the
samples taken are
presently viable
(alive).
• Samples are cultured
in the laboratory to
determine viability.
47
Mold Sampling: Dust Method
• Taking dust samples can
reveal a “History” of an
environment.
• There are several
methods for dust
collection.
48
Mold Sampling: Bulk Materials Method
• There are times when
removing the Bulk
Material itself is the
best method for
laboratory testing.
• Sampling fiberglass
insulation.
49
Locating the water source
• Note the pattern of the mold
growth on the wall above the
doorway.
• Identifying the source of
excessive moisture or the
water intrusion.
• Note the pattern of the mold
growth from the floor
diminishing as it moves
upwards.
50
“Fogging” equipment
• Fogging equipment is available in a
variety of configurations and can be
utilized with or without heating the
liquids.
• There are two types of systems:
• Thermal Fogging and ULV
Fogging.
51
Water Extraction
• Water should be
removed as soon as
practical to minimize
further damage to
contents and
structure.
52
Microscopic Pictures Of Mold Fungi
• Additional pictures are
taken thru an Electron
Microscope of various
fungi:
• Aspergillus fungus spores
53
Hotel & Resort Litigation
• On May 16, 2002 a class action law suite
was filed representing an estimated 10,000
persons.
• The complaint alleged that the plaintiff and
his family were injured after spending 17
days at the resort by the hotels “unfair and
deceptive acts and practices by
nondisclosure of mold growth in the guest
rooms after the hotel was aware of the
problem”.
54
Mobile Home Litigation
•
• In 2004, A 7.5 million dollar lawsuit was filed seeking
“wrongful death” damages as a result of alleged exposure to
mold to the estate of a 60 year old grandmother and her 2
year old grandson.
• The grandmother died in 2001, the pathologist report
indicated that the cause of death was
• due to a overwhelming
• fungal infestation in
• her lungs.
55
Mycotoxins & Toxic Mold
• The term "toxic mold" refers to molds that
produce mycotoxins such as
Stachybotrys chartarum, Alternaria,
Aspergillus , Penicillium, and others.
• Not all molds produce mycotoxins.
• Molds that produce mycotoxins can pose
serious health risks to humans and
animals.
56
High Ozone Shock Treatment
• Involves using an ozone generator to create
lethal levels of ozone in an odor ridden room
or building. It is not approved or
recommended for mold remediation.
• It provides a fast adjunct method of
unpleasant odor removal.
• The use of ozone is controversial and if used
inappropriately it can have serious adverse
effects on people, pets & property.
57
Common Symptoms of mold exposure
• Nasal and sinus congestion, runny nose.
• Eye irritation, such as itchy, red, watery
eyes.
• Respiratory problems, such as wheezing
and difficulty breathing, chest tightness.
• Throat irritation or Cough.
• Skin irritation, such as a rash.
• Headaches or Sneezing
• And Other Symptoms… 58
What Is The Most Commonly Used
Product To Combat Mold ?
59
Bleach diluted with water
What Is The Active Ingredient In Bleach ?
• Household bleach is
generally comprised of a
solution containing 3-8%
sodium hypochlorite.
60
Typical Concentrations of Bleach
Used In A Clothes Washing Machine
• A clothes washing machine holds
20+ gallons of water in the drum,
that is equal to 320 fluid cups.
• Add 1 cup of Bleach equals a ratio
of 320 to 1.
• A ratio of 5 parts water to 1 part
bleach is a typical ratio
disinfecting purposes .

What Are Surfactants ?
• Surfactants are compounds that lower the surface
or interfacial tension of a liquid between two
liquids, or between a liquid and a solid.
• Surfactants may act as detergents, wetting agents,
emulsifiers, foaming agents, and dispersants
• Surfactants are sometimes utilized by
manufactures to assist liquids penetrate into
porous surfaces, or to increase cleaning
efficiency.
62
The Use Of Bleach Products & Surfactants
• In 2008, a study of common cleaning
products found the presence of carbon
tetrachloride in "very high
concentrations" (up to 101 mg m−3) as a
result of manufacturers' mixing of
surfactants or soap with sodium
hypochlorite (bleach).[18]

63
Do Mold Toxins Poise A Risk To Your Pets ?
64
When You Are Unsure About “What To
Do”….
• First, STOP and
ASSESS.
• You may be tempted to
Rush into taking drastic
action.
• Testing and Pre
Planning Facilitate An
Effective Action Plan.
65
King Tut and “Curse Of The Mummy” …
Did Death visit those who disturbed the mummy ?
• In 1922 King Tutankhamen's w tomb was discovered. A
British archeological sponsor - Lord Carnarvon after
attending the tombs opening died shortly afterwards
inspiring supernatural “curse” speculation.
• In recent years a scientific mummy's-curse theory was
offered for Carnarvon's death. Was he killed by exposure
to ancient, toxic pathogens from the sealed tomb?
• Some ancient mummies do carry mold, including at least
two potentially dangerous species—Aspergillus niger and
Aspergillus flavus.
• Some tomb walls may also be covered with respiratory-
assaulting bacteria like Pseudomonas and
Staphylococcus.
• Bats inhabit many excavated tombs, and their droppings
carry a fungus that can cause the influenza-like respiratory
disease histoplasmosis. Under the right conditions such
hazards could prove deadly.
66
Recommendations….
• If you suspect mold or mildew; or detect an unpleasant “musty” odor,
there is usually excessive moisture, humidity or water present. Test the
area.
• Discovering the cause of, and remediating the source of the excessive
moisture is essential to prevent a reoccurrence of mold.
• Properly using the correct types of PPE is essential to safeguard your
health. When in doubt, always proceed on the side of caution by
making possibly dangerous situations non-issues.
• Have resources “In Place” in Advance of a potential need. Conversely,
developing a plan and searching for resources while under duress is far
more stressful strategy that typically results in higher costs and longer
recovery times.

  • 61. King Tut and “Curse Of The Mummy” … Did Death visit those who disturbed the mummy ? • In 1922 King Tutankhamen's w tomb was discovered. A British archeological sponsor - Lord Carnarvon after attending the tombs opening died shortly afterwards inspiring supernatural “curse” speculation. • In recent years a scientific mummy's-curse theory was offered for Carnarvon's death. Was he killed by exposure to ancient, toxic pathogens from the sealed tomb? • Some ancient mummies do carry mold, including at least two potentially dangerous species—Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. • Some tomb walls may also be covered with respiratory- assaulting bacteria like Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus. • Bats inhabit many excavated tombs, and their droppings carry a fungus that can cause the influenza-like respiratory disease histoplasmosis. Under the right conditions such hazards could prove deadly. 66
  • 62. Recommendations…. • If you suspect mold or mildew; or detect an unpleasant “musty” odor, there is usually excessive moisture, humidity or water present. Test the area. • Discovering the cause of, and remediating the source of the excessive moisture is essential to prevent a reoccurrence of mold. • Properly using the correct types of PPE is essential to safeguard your health. When in doubt, always proceed on the side of caution by making possibly dangerous situations non-issues. • Have resources “In Place” in Advance of a potential need. Conversely, developing a plan and searching for resources while under duress is far more stressful strategy that typically results in higher costs and longer recovery times. 67

Editor's Notes

  1. Share Ideas and Strategies to increase your Efficiency & Effectiveness Harms Way mean, protect you, personalybb, your team and building occupants health & out of the News Headlines in a Bad way.
  2. Mold is far more Highly Structured and organized then most people realize. it can be a Very Powerful & Resilient Adversary. Some mold has bio films that are provide strong protection for chemicals and other threats the mold faces. Some molds “Hide” underneath other molds for concealment purposes as a Defense Mechanism.
  3. Generally, an “Outside” sample is always taken as a “Control” sample that is compared with samples taken within the building envelope. It is critical to get “Good Clean Sampling Data”, then it is equally important to be able to interpret the data correctly. Critical to have the lab do good analysis of the samples.
  4. Gift Card. Because during the remediation process indoor air quality can degrade drastically and mold spore counts can rapidly increase. Containment areas are typically under air negative air pressure and being vented thru HEPA air scrubber to the outside of the building.
  5. Some Lawyers refer to Mold as Gold and they Train Hard to get their Gold. I’d prefer that it not be mine. Pass the 2 books around class.
  6. Lets talk about ENHANCING OUR CREDITABILITY: The number 1 question about mold that is rarely asked directly is: 1. DO YOU CARE? & 2.ARE YOU QUALIFIED TO HANDEL THIS PROBLEM? Do you Care? Ask Questions even if you know the answers; it demonstrates care & concern. The person who is the initial point of contact CAN BE very important IT sets the Tone for the entire project. The 1st point of contact onsite should be Well Qualified to communicate credibly with concerned parties.
  7. compounds, they can come from other sources. Such as Organic Mattermmmgrowing mold produces a wide range of volatile compounds, some of which can carry a musty odor, even in Low Concentrations. Mold colonies do not have to be sporulating to release these VOC compounds, so that nearly invisible mold can be the source; in another words: The mold does not have to be releasing mold spores in order for bad smells to occur. Common Sources of musty odors are: Carpeting & Pad; Concrete; Very Old Wood or Paper products sometimes even in “Dry” environments. Musty Odors: Do They Always Indicate Mold? By Dr. Harriet Burge, EMLab P&K Chief Aerobiologist and Director of Scientific Advisory Board
  8. The vast majority of Fungi & Mold has not be studied. We know relatively little about Mold & Fungi. Many mold species have only I.D. numbers assigned to them, and have not been studied, and do not have a specific name assigned to the species of mold. The English word fungus is directly adopted from the Latin fungus (mushroom). This in turn is derived from the Greek word sphongos ("sponge"), which refers to the macroscopic structures and morphology of mushrooms and molds. The use of the word mycology, denote the scientific study of fungi is thought to have originated in 1836 with English naturalist Miles Joseph Berkeley.
  9. Ancient Written Instructions Concerning Mold: Written 1400 BC approximately . Leviticus 13: 36-40 No mention of “Black” mold; there are other Colors & Types of mold that are problematic to people. These instructions relate to houses only. There are other instructions regarding moldy fabrics as well in this manuscript.

  11. The CMHC is equivalent to our FHA. It has some good information and is relatively unbiased. You can visit the CMHC web site for additional information.
  12. Mycotoxins can have a wide range of Adverse Human health effects. Where conditions are right, fungi proliferate into colonies and mycotoxin levels become high. The symptoms of a mycotoxicosis depend on the type of mycotoxin; the concentration and length of exposure; as well as age, health, and sex of the exposed individual. Mycotoxins have the potential for both acute and chronic health effects via ingestion, skin contact and inhalation. Some of the mycotoxins in the indoor environment that are more well known are: Alternaria, Aspergillus , Penicillium, and Stachybotrys others which are largely unstudied. The infestation of S. chartarum in buildings containing gypsum board, as well as on ceiling tiles, is very common and has recently become a more recognized problem.
  13. Pictures are taken thru an Electron Microscope of various fungi. Aspergillus fungus spores,
  14. Mold exposures have a variety of health effects depending on the person, some people are more sensitive to mold than others. Exposure to mold can cause a number of health issues such as; throat irritation, nasal stuffiness, eye irritation, cough and wheezing, as well as skin irritation in some cases. People at higher risk for mold allergies are people with chronic lung illnesses, which will result in more severe reactions when exposed to mold. Infants may develop respiratory symptoms as a result of exposure to a specific type of fungal mold, called Penicillium. Infants will begin to show respiratory problems if they have a persistent cough and/or wheeze. The number of days that a child will suffer from respiratory symptoms during their first year of life increases by an average of 20% every time the level of Pencicillium increases. The levels are deemed no mold to low level, from low to intermediate, from intermediate to high. [3]

  16. Tell of building in Florida where All the Electrical wiring had to be replaced Anyone who wants the study email me I will send it 2008.
  17.  In 2008, a study of common cleaning products found the presence of carbon tetrachloride in "very high concentrations" (up to 101 mg m−3) as a result of manufacturers' mixing of surfactants or soap with sodium hypochlorite (bleach).[18] ^ Odabasi M (2008). "Halogenated Volatile Organic Compounds from the Use of Chlorine-Bleach-Containing Household Products". Environmental Science & Technology 42 (5): 1445–51. doi:10.1021/es702355u
  18. Air quality issues become amplified . For example: humidification problems can increase significantly when air exchanges decrease. Air Sampling & other types of testing are becoming more commonplace. The astronomical sizes of litigation awards draws increased levels of media coverage. and can diagnose problems that were previously unexplained. The media tends to dramatize certain types of events and Mold is one such event especially when large law suites are at stake.
  19. Assessment is done thru: Visual Inspections, Mold Sampling, Moisture Testing where data is collected sent to and tested at a laboratory. Remediation is the physical process of having workers: Remove or Decontaminate damaged building products.
  20. Use of the protective suite can raise personnel’s body temperatures significantly. Proper hydration is critical to worker’s safety. The boots which are attached to the suite can be extremely slippery on wet surfaces.
  21. Some gloves are available in latex free composition for personal with latex sensitivity. Gloves are generally available with or without powder depending on personal preference. The thickness chosen may depend on the type of work needed to be completed, i.e.. handling papers or doing demolition work. Note: that the glove pictured below has a much thicker fabric than the glove pictured above.
  22. Slipping on wet and damp surfaces is a real danger when wearing “Tyvek” type suites, especially on non porous surfaces.
  23. Having an exhalation valve helps improve breathing efficiency, by allowing air to be expelled “easier” than without a valve. If you are doing a job that is physically taxing have a exhalation valve is a good investment. Increased air flow resistance significantly taxes personal physically, and reduces worker productivity. Most of the N95’s sold today do not have the exhalation valves.
  24. These masks are relatively inexpensive and fairly durable. If “stand alone” eye protection is used the combined cost is generally half of that of a full face mask. Half face respirators offer the advantage of being able to utilize a wide range of replaceable filter cartridges in a variety of environments. The eye protection shown is “air tight”, and separate from the respirator; these types of eye protection tend to “fog” up with heavy usage. A disadvantage of the half face mask is that is does not provide any type of “built in” eye protection, and a limited amount of face protection.
  25. The respirator pictured at top does NOT have air filters attached. The respirator shown at bottom has both filters installed. There are hundreds of filters to choose from. Their tends to be less fogging of the mask area compared to individual goggle usage. OSHA regulations require that no facial hair be present such as beards; in order to have a secure seal around the face area.
  26. Filters have 9 different classes and 3 levels of efficiency the are rated at either 95, 99 or 99.97% Filter usage is indicated by the N, R and P designations. N-series filters are Not resistant to oil aerosols. R-series filters are "resistant to oil" and P-series filters should be selected if there are oil aerosols or non-oil aerosols in the workplace. All nine classes filter the same particle size (0.3 micrometers aerodynamic mass median diameter). “P” filters become more efficient at filtration of particles with use; however, breathing becomes more difficult due to increased air flow restriction due to particle build up on the filter media.
  27. Breathing is easier by utilizing positive air flow inside a full face mask. Power blowers allowing for increased worker productivity due to less breathing related fatigue. Power pack and blower mounts around workers waist on the belt pictured to wearer’s along their back. The equipment costs are considerably higher than other non powered filtration systems. After the initial equipment set up expenses, due to the constant “powered” air flow, filters generally have a shorter “life” expectancy thus there are additional filter expenses.
  28. It is not uncommon for one species of mold to grow on top of another species of mold, see what appears to be one species on top of another, look for the color variations in the pictures.
  29. HEPA stands for: High Efficiency Particulate Air. This is a specific type of filter media which traps particulate matter from the air as it passes thru the filter.
  30. During the remediation process airborne particulate particles typically increase; the use of HEPA vacuums to capture this particulate matter is a common protocol. Vacuuming in conjunction with physical agitation can be used as a preliminary step prior to the application of antimicrobial chemicals, due many species of fungi having a very thick bio film which resists antimicrobial liquids alone.
  31. An advantage of a “Portable” dehumidifier is that is can be placed exactly where it is needed, within the building envelope.
  32. and are generally placed outside the building. and may require a separate electrical power source
  33. Air sampling: the most common form of sampling to assess the level of mold. Sampling of the inside and outdoor air is conducted and the results to the level of mold spores inside the premises and outside are compared. Often, air sampling will provide positive identification of the existence of non-visible mold. Surface samples: sampling the amount of mold spores deposited on indoor surfaces (tape, swab and dust samples) Bulk samples: the removal of materials from the contaminated area to identify and determine the concentration of mold in the sample
  34. The bottom two pictures center and left are of air sampling systems of different vendors. Air is sucked into a cassette indicated by the red arrow and the particles impact various types of media and the particles impact speed of air is variable as is the length of time the air impacts the cassette.
  35. Advantages: A good method of identifying what types of mold are present. Disadvantages: It is not a good method to determine if the mold is currently “viable” (living or dormant)? This is not generally an issue because it is a good idea to get rid of the mold.
  36. Advantages: Can determine IF the mold is “viable” (alive). Disadvantages: Not the best method to determine what types (if any) of fungi are present or at what levels present (spore counts are not possible with this system).
  37. where as “Air Sampling” provides a “snapshot” of the current environmental conditions. There are different sampling methods for collection of dust sampling. Some use systems use specially designed vacuums that hold special collection cassettes. Other systems use vacuum pump systems and special dust collection media cassettes.
  38. There are times when you can get “cleaner” or more accurate examination results by “Bagging” & “Tagging” Bulk types of materials for lab analysis. It may be better to remove part of the suspected area itself and send it to a laboratory for direct microscopic examination.
  39. Patterns of mold growth are often indicators of the source of excessive moisture or a water intrusion. Top picture see above the doorway at the red arrow. Bottom picture see the darker color mold located closer to the floor.
  40. “Thermal fogging” utilizes heated liquids and generally creates smaller droplets or a “finer” size mist than compared to ULV fogging can be used to apply antimicrobial agents or odor control agents When liquids are heated the system is called “thermal fogging”; smaller droplets are created and better saturation can be achieved. Typically, this system is used for odor control agents. When liquids are applied with out heat typically the system is called “ULV fogging”; larger liquid droplets are formed and larger volumes of liquid can be applied. Typically, this system is used to apply antimicrobial agents.
  41. “Truck” mounted water extraction equipment is shown is these pictures. Removing the water and reducing the humidity to “normal” levels as quickly as possible is critical to mitigate additional damage and costs to a “water loss” situation. Failure to remove the excessive moisture may result in microbial issues developing.
  42. The defendants in this case (the hotel corporation) in April 2003 in turn sued nearly 20 architects, contractors and subcontractors involved in the design and construction of the hotel. The plaintiffs claimed the discovery of mold in the hotel was a material fact that should have been disclosed to the guests.
  43. The defendants prevailed in this case however they were able to produce a great deal of evidence to contradict the claims of the plaintiff.
  44. Pictures of “Stackie” Pets drinking mold infested surface water drainage can be at risk. A mycotoxin (from Greek μύκης (mykes, mukos) “fungus” and Latin (toxicum) “poison”. mycotoxin is a toxic secondary metabolite produced by organisms commonly known as molds. Exposure to high levels of mycotoxins can lead to neurological problems and in some cases death. Prolonged exposure, e.g., daily workplace exposure, can be particularly harmful . The term ‘mycotoxin’ is usually reserved for the toxic chemical products produced by fungi commonly known as mold. by Alternaria, Aspergillus (multiple forms), Penicillium, and Stachybotrys.[27] Stachybotrys chartarum contains a higher number of mycotoxins than other molds grown in the indoor environment and has been associated with allergies and respiratory inflammation.[28] The infestation of S. chartarum in
  45. Disadvantages of using Ozone include: Occupants and pets must be evacuated for the duration of the high levels of ozone. Ozone can also kill vermin. Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent which could damage rubber and other certain building materials. Ozone in and of itself can leave a lingering odor of itself for a few days. Killing mold inside walls does not remove the mold, and that dead mold may continue to have adverse health effects on building inhabitants.
  46. There are many other potential symptoms that can be associated with mold exposure, the above list is not exhaustive.
  47. Give the persons with the correct answer a prize.
  48. At stronger concentrations you have a very different cocktail from doing laundry work. Noticed how the smell of bleach can sometimes become stronger in a laundry area as the wash cycle proceeds? Why, bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite ) as it is exposed to organic matter can to can create VOC’s which can be a strong odorant.
  49. What happens if your disinfectant does not have Surfactants? It does not penetrate into porous surfaces. You can “kill” mold at the surface and leave the mold root structure intact due to a lack of penetration. Cite past job site experiences where mold was growing on the walls within 72 hours.
  50. This study has been around long enough to withstand a barrage of criticism; to date only the conclusions with the statement “conclusions being hypothetical” have been added by main stream commentaries.
