7.8.1 Cargill Inc Analyses
Cargill Inc. is a US-based, privately held, Multinational Corporation, founded in 1865. It is currently
the largest privately held corporation in the United States in terms of revenue.
In 2013, Cargill declared revenues of $136.7bn and earnings of $2.31bn, employing over 140,000
employees in 66 countries.

Cargill Inc is a producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and
services. The company provides food and beverage manufacturers, food service companies and
retailers with various ingredients, food additives, meat and poultry products, and health-promoting
ingredients and ingredient systems.
Cargill still continues to remain a family-owned business, as the descendants of the founder own
ca. 90% of the business. As a result, most of its growth has been due to reinvestment of the
company's own earnings rather than public financing. Gregory R. Page, who is not part of Cargill
family, is the CEO of Cargill.

In 2011, Cargill acquired Provimi, a global animal nutrition company, from the private- equity owner
Permira Advisers LLP for ca. $2.1bn to expand its animal-feed additives division. By building on
the existing strengths of the two companies, Cargill is creating a global leader in animal nutrition
with the ability to offer the broadest array of products and services.
In 2012, Cargill completed a purchase of a cat and dog food plant from American Nutrition. In
2013, Cargill invested $100mln in Indonesian cocoa plant. The facility is expected to open mid
2014.
Also, in 2013, Cargill’s made a $48mln investment to double capacity of its existing Belgian
chocolate production facility in Mouscron over the next two years. The new production lines will be
operational in summer 2014.
In addition, in 2013, Cargill Australia Limited announced the acquisition of Joe White Maltings from
Glencore International. The Foreign Investment Review Board and the Australian Federal
Government had no objections to this acquisition.

It is currently the largest privately held corporation in the United States in terms of revenue. In 2013, Cargill declared revenues of $136.7bn and earnings of $2.31bn, employing over 140,000 employees in 66 countries. Cargill Inc is a producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services. The company provides food and beverage manufacturers, food service companies and retailers with various ingredients, food additives, meat and poultry products, and health-promoting ingredients and ingredient systems. Cargill still continues to remain a family-owned business, as the descendants of the founder own ca. 90% of the business. As a result, most of its growth has been due to reinvestment of the company's own earnings rather than public financing. Gregory R. Page, who is not part of Cargill family, is the CEO of Cargill. In 2011, Cargill acquired Provimi, a global animal nutrition company, from the private- equity owner Permira Advisers LLP for ca. $2.1bn to expand its animal-feed additives division. By building on the existing strengths of the two companies, Cargill is creating a global leader in animal nutrition with the ability to offer the broadest array of products and services. In 2012, Cargill completed a purchase of a cat and dog food plant from American Nutrition. In 2013, Cargill invested $100mln in Indonesian cocoa plant. The facility is expected to open mid 2014. Also, in 2013, Cargill’s made a $48mln investment to double capacity of its existing Belgian chocolate production facility in Mouscron over the next two years.
