As the global economy starts a more identifiable recovery PPG will benefit as PPG is strategically
positioned to meet growing customer needs by being a highly diversified global supplier of Glass
fibre. Looking at the near term PPG has a range of composites developments with a combination
of innovative products, materials solutions and technical expertise which see PPG very well placed
within the industry. PPG are also heavily investing in expanding their current capacity and pushing
further into the emerging markets. Sales volumes in glass fibre increased for PPG, which they
have put down to higher global demand in various end use markets.
In late 2012 PPG finalised the acquisition of several assets belonging to Spraylat Corp, a privately
owned industrial coatings company based in Pelham, N.Y. This acquisition expands the
capabilities of PPG’s industrial coatings business for both liquid and powder coatings. Most
recently PPG’s aerospace division qualified nine coatings systems to SAE International’s
Aerospace Material Specification 3095A for airline exterior paint.
PPG announced in April 2014 the successful completion of the previously announced sale to
Essilor International of its 51 percent ownership interest in its Transitions Optical joint venture and
PPG’s wholly-owned sun lens business. Essilor International had held a 49 percent interest in the
Transitions Optical joint venture. As previously indicated, the transaction reflects an enterprise
value of approximately $3.4 billion, with PPG receiving cash at closing of $1.73 billion pre-tax or
approximately $1.5 billion after-tax, subject to certain post-closing adjustments and transaction
costs. In 2013, the Transitions Optical joint venture and sun lens business had combined net sales
of $874 million.

Composites industry. Building & Construction/ Infrastructure, Industrial, Transportation, Marine and
Wind have been the key markets in the last decade.
