STUDIO MANAGER AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for setting and upholding quality and creative standards, maintaining a positive and
energetic atmosphere and developing staff to meet the needs of an evolving media landscape. Focused
on strategically managing a team to be competitive in the marketplace for work ranging from highly
conceptual brand work to retail print and digital display advertising to social.
Oversee studio artist, project coordinator and copy editor resourcing to ensure agency
standards of excellence while meeting deadlines for both internal and external clients
Maintain executive supervision and adherence to best practices throughout the pitch process
Uphold production standards to ensure added value and quality control of all studio services and
deliverables for internal and external clients
Participate in scoping process, gaining understanding of scope, opportunity, deliverables and timing in
order to provide estimates for studio resources and out of pocket costs for project work, annual retainers
and ongoing scope adjustments throughout the course of a year
Build and maintain relationships with leaders and individuals throughout the agency, but especially
with Creative Department, Project Management, Production, Account Management and Business
Development, advising on the most current technical and production processes
Oversee process modifications as the media landscape evolves
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee studio artist, project coordinator and copy editor resourcing to ensure agency standards
of excellence while meeting deadlines for both internal and external clients
Provide resourcing solutions to teams when faced with production related obstacles
Attend daily morning project management meetings; provide solutions to resource allocation
and scheduling concerns for client presentations and new business pitches
Attend weekly project management resource meetings; oversee heads-up notifications to
studio for after-hour resourcing
Oversee resource allocations during daily studio hotlist meetings and weekly print producer meetings
Encourage positive and energetic work relationships between Durham and NY offices
Maintain relationships with freelance designers, production artists, proofreaders, retouchers
and additional production resources with the purpose of scaling studio services as needed
Ensure client work coverage while managing after-hour shifts and PTO
Manage studio artists, project coordinators, proofreaders and copy editors
Provide ongoing, immediate positive and corrective feedback while coaching agency
and studio standards of excellence
Post and approve PTO requests to the departmental calendar and manage emergency OOO requests
providing nimble/alternative resourcing solutions
Champion technical skills development and career goal development
Ensure a positive and energetic work environment
Schedule shifts when necessary to manage physical, emotional and mental fatigue/exhaustion
Approve time reports and ensure accuracy with time tracking
Provide direction for studio resources and deliverables
Ensure studio resources are on track and focused to completion
Collaborate with project management to determine production schedule; proactively
recommend alternative scheduling solutions
Collaborate/align with Group Creative Director and Group Acccount Director on deliverables,
budget/production constraints, expectations and approvals
Schedule shifts to meet deadline expectations
Hands-on studio resource and quality control check for all deliverables
Ensure quality control workflow and processes to meet studio’s standard for accuracy and
deliverable excellence in details
Order studio supplies as needed or anticipated
Uphold production standards to ensure added value and quality control of all studio services
and deliverables
Ensure quality control workflow processes currently in place including art director/studio
signoffs, proof-checking, copy deck/layout approvals
Advocate legacy typographic standards of excellence
Remain current with software knowledge used in production work for studio deliverables
including layouts, mechanicals, banners, social posts and presentations
Participate in scoping process, gaining understanding of scope, opportunity, deliverables and timing
in order to provide estimates for studio resources and out of pocket costs for project work, annual
retainers and ongoing scope adjustments throughout the course of a year
Meet weekly with director, creative services to discuss resource concerns and propose resolutions
Check in regularly with directors of planning, account management, media, agency communications,
office services, talent management, c&bi, digital and social strategy, information technology, business
development, project management, broadcast, interactive, and print production to assess studio
development needs, training, trends, processes, efficiencies, initiatives and resource allocation needs
for the future
Continue developing and training agency resources on creative suite best practices in order to maintain
an efficient and nimble workflow environment
Ensure a solidly-aligned management team in the studio who, collectively, maintain positive, energetic,
productive and developmental relationships with agency leaders and individuals
