Introduction:
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strength is that I am a good listener, quick learner, positive-thinking, good
time-management, brave, self-motivated and goal-oriented person; my weaknesses
are having ineffective communication skills and lacking knowledge-Based skills.
What are your personalities?
I would like to define myself as a warrior, because I will have a lot of energy and take
initiative to achieve my goal if I set a goal to myself.
Few months ago, almost the end of semester one, I had to make decision on whether
selecting the Leadership in Practice (LIP) course or China Study as the subject
studying in semester two. Definitely, I chose LIP without questioned, because I love
and enjoy being a leader. As I believed that leader`s characteristic, mind and thought
differ from that of common people, I thought it is a good time for me to learn what a
leader is and how to be a good leader when I am studying LIP in semester two.
Past Leadership Experiences:
What do you think about your leadership skills and interpersonal skills, etc.?
According to my past experiences, before selecting LIP, I thought I had been
practicing leadership because I have joined a franchise business and operated a free
store with my friends one year ago. In this aspect, I learnt how to cooperate and
coordinate with all my partners to make decision on how to operate a free store
successfully. Finally, we have successfully operated the free store with organizing
different marketing activities, managing human resources and Logistics, and
communicating with all departments efficiently.

Moreover, I was a captain of some amateur soccer teams such as Hong Kong
Secondary School Football Team, Yau TsimMong District Football Team and Eastern
Football Club. In this aspect, I learnt how to coordinate and communicate with all my
teammates in different situation and to arouse them to achieve our goal together.
Last but not least, I am a football coach of age group between 6 – 12. Now, I have a
part-time job on South China Football Club to teach kids to play football. It is a great
challenge for me to enhance my problem-solving skills and coordinate the teaching
plan in an effective way, because those kids are too young, too active. It is difficult for
me to control a group of around 15 kids and take care about their safety.

Now, I am starting an online business with a partner that he is one of the agents of a
Korean cosmetic brand called “3 Concept Eyes” few months ago. In this aspect, I
applied what I have learnt from the past experience, LIP course and MPR program
to my online business such as communication skills, problem solving skills and
Management skills and Marketing Knowledge.
Although I have such a lot of experiences and learnt a lot of skills frommany failures,
I still having not enough self-confident to say I am a good leader and tackle problems
that I will face smoothly and comprehensively. I understood being a leader with good
leadership skills, especially, communication skills, problem solving skills, coordination
skills and Management skills is very important for all aspect in my future. Thus, I
always force myself to try more and learn more. As a result, I would like to select LIP
undoubtedly in order to understand deeply about what a real leadership is. I believed
LIP course can shorten the path and time to lead me to be a successful leader.

Experiential Leadership Learning in LIP course:
What do you expect to change from the experiential learning?
At the beginning, I would like to tell you that the content of every lectures and
tutorial classes are very attractive and interesting for me, because it seems that
those content and teaching materials teach me how to live my life in a brilliant way.
To cite an example, I learnt how an effective communication form lecture 3 can
influence my life and career path deeply. The problems of communication incidents
are often happened around my part-time job and my business such as I asked my
partners to help me copy the document that is on my desk and he printed the
document from my desktop computer. Therefore, I learnt I should clarify my requests
or messages with sufficient information and check whether they receive my message
or not.
After the leadership day camp, I have learnt a lot and found some of my weaknesses.
This day camp provides me an important chance to apply my past experiences and
what I have learnt from Lectures and tutorial classes of LIP. On that day, I set my goal
as “Challenge and surpass my ability.” And I think I reach my goal after the day camp.
Before starting the 7 events of the day camp, we are required to divide into 4 groups
with 7 persons a group and to select one event as the leader of that event. For my
choice, I select the first event, which is called “Goal Setting”, to be a leader, and guide
and lead my teammates to achieve the event`s missions. After we achieved our first
event`s missions and finished the first event, there was a sharing meeting for us to
give some opinions about the course of event and my leadership. I enjoyed the
moment people who criticize my leadership and my personal characteristics, because
I know I am not perfect and people can see my weaknesses that I cannot see. The
Coach, who is called “Michael”, told me that I can be a good leader and there is a
little minor mistake that I only do time-control by in my conscious and have not
shown my teammates the time-limit, causing them confuse those tasks` time-limit of
the event. I found that I really always coordinate my teammates without showing
time-limit and guide them with my time-control that is in my conscious. Therefore, I
have found my mistakes and weaknesses that I should face and correct at this
moment.
During the other events, I acted as a team member or an observer, and cooperate
with teammates to achieve our events` missions. When I was participating and
observing the process of events, I found that there are lots of mistakes and
weaknesses of those events` leaders that I should pay attention to and learn from

their mistakes such as ineffective time-control, giving no or not enough arousal and
support to teammates, having not enough self-confident and ineffective coordination
skills. Also, I found that there are lots of strengths of those events` leaders that I
must learn from them such as Message delivering skills and communication skills.
The most impressive event for me is “Summoning Help”. In this event, our group is
required to divide into 2 subgroup (one subgroup is for sending the message and the
other subgroup is for receiving the message by using 2 flags with different postures).
Although we could not decode the message from sender subgroup, I figured out that
the most important message of this event. Effective Communication is definitely a
fundamental tool to let people know your ideas and messages, in order to achieve
the outcome objectives effectively and efficiently.

Conclusion:
To conclude, I have learnt a lot from LIP course and find many weaknesses in many
aspects that I should improve such as Message delivery skills, time management,
communication skills, self-confident, providing arousal and support at a right time
and problem solving skills.
The most urgent weakness I would like to improve is communication skills, because I
know I have to learn communicating with different people. Different people have
different characteristics and personalities. This is a great topic that I should learn and
face in the whole life.
I know I have many weaknesses and limited experiences that are not enough to lead
me to be a good leader. Fortunately, I know I am young and I have a lot of time to
find and improve my weaknesses. I believed I will be a successful leader in the future.
This is my goal.
