2. Images that represent my audience.
These pictures represent the type of audience I am hoping to appeal to with my product, people who are passionate
about music and are interested in activities such as skating, video games, and playing musical instruments for
hobbies. They are interested in taking part in concerts whenever they can and like to support smaller less well know
musicians because they have a level of respect for artists. My age range in my audience will be from around the age
of 16 to 25. They are collective and instead of downloading they like to add to their collection of old records and
CDs, and in this sense are more materialistic. But my audience profile is very open, and even age can range
massively but in my product I have catered more for the younger generations of people, as I use similar language
etc..
These images mirror that of my mood board
already on my blog but offer a more up to date
perspective.
3. Although I aim to target both genders, my audience will probably be predominantly male as my
informal approach with language and my interview techniques will tend more to the male sex.
The content I have provided in my magazine will be easily relatable to my audience and they will
be able to find common interests in the magazine and the representation of the artists or band
will also draw them in. My audience will have easy access to the internet as they are
technophiles, and so my magazine will promote online pages where they can talk with other
readers share views and opinions on any subject in the publication they like. They will be able to
find people who are going to the same Gigs, who have similar interests or music tastes as them
and make friends using our online chat rooms. Internet is allowing the bridge between the
audience, the consumer, and the and the company making the product, the producer ever
smaller. I think that this brings a sense of excitement for the reader as they can now easily via
the internet begin to create their own products, by starting in our chat room giving their voices
and opinions to other like minded individuals.
My magazine I hope can directly represent my audience and stand as a statement to their
personalities and interests. The images I have chosen in my magazine and mood board represent
a particular social group, they are bright minded optimistic young people who are enthusiastic
and enjoy showing their passion for music.
When I comes to dress sense and what kind of fashion my audience are interested in, typically
they would wear skinny jeans with long oversized jumpers and t-shirts, wearing beanie hats,
band bracelets and merchandise. There will be a collective group of people, some who prefer
wearing darker clothes where as some will love to express themselves through fashion and so
colour will be largely a part of their statement.
My Audience, Interests, fashion etc..
4. Audience feedback
I asked a variety of people aged from 16 to 25, those in my target audience questions about
my music magazine pages.
The people I questioned when asked what their view where on the masthead and what it
meant, the majority said that it gave a instant insight into what the magazine was focused on.
Apart from the acceptation of a few they all gave the same sort of description in what they
thought the masthead meant. “Unstrung gives the idea or music being broken down to the
bare bones much like a guitar being unstrung” and so I concluded that the name Unstrung as
a brand name was a success as It provides the audience with a small insight into what the
magazine is about, and the rest is given away by the other information on the cover. And when
asked what genre they thought the magazine focused on, every response came back with
either “Indie “or “alternative rock” which is what I was aiming for to be portrayed to my
audience.
When asked what age range do you think Unstrung magazine tends to? The large majority
said between the ages of 18 and 25 which is very close to what my target was of 16 to 24.
The article page was said to have given a clear representation of what the audience would
look like as they felt the model in the picture suited what a reader would also look like
which is good as I wanted a direct link between the reader, the images and information.
As the majority of people I asked where my close friends and so we shared interests in
music, around 60% said that they would buy the magazine because I seemed to cover the
genre of music that the liked, where as the 40% said it did not tend to their music tastes
and that was the only reason that they would not consider buying the Magazine.
