In 1986, my father was 22 years old, when he travelled alone (without a smartphone and internet) all the way to Japan, to buy fishing gear (trawl). As a young fisherman under Greenland he had noticed that the Japanese were able to fish there where the seabed was hard and rocky. When the Japanese came into port, their fishing gear was hidden away. He decided to go all the way to Japan to buy this type of fishing gear, which ended up disrupting the Faroese fishing gear marked back then. Two years later I was born.
