2. Statement of the Problem:
A problem statement is a concise description of
an issue to be addressed or a condition to be
improved upon. It identifies the gap between the
current (problem) state and desired (goal) state
of a process or product. Focusing on the facts,
the problem statement should be designed to
address the main problems in the area. The first
condition of solving a problem is understanding
the problem, which can be done by way of a
problem statement.
3. Purpose-
1. The main purpose of the problem statement is to identify
and explain the problem. This includes describing the existing
environment, where the problem occurs, and what impacts it
has on users, finances, and other activities. It makes clear the
purpose for initiating the improvement project and the goals
that it is meant to accomplish.
2. It is important to note that the problem statement does not
define the solution or methods of reaching the solution. The
problem statement simply recognizes the gap between the
problem and goal states. It can be said that, “a problem well
stated is half solved.” However, there are often multiple, viable
solutions to a problem. Only after the problem statement is
written and agreed upon should the solution(s) be discussed
and the resulting course of action determined.
4. Justification of the problem:
1. Justification of the study relates to the purpose or reason, why the study is being
carried out.
2. While significance of the study relates to how different stakeholders or society will
benefit from the study.
3. This section should discuss: how the research relates to the development priorities
of the study area or society concerned.
4. The scientific importance of the problem; the magnitude of the problem and how
the research results will contribute to its solution.
5. The special importance of the project for vulnerable social groups; and the need to
build up research capacity in the proposed area of research.
6. With regards to the significance of the study, one could then identify different
people or organizations then indicate how they will benefit from this study that wishes
to come up with a model for effective implementation of the curriculum.
5. TOPIC-
"Economic Analysis of Marketing and
Processing of Guava (Psydiumguajava L.) in
Kaushambi District of Uttar Pradesh, India"
6. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
• The area of the present study was Kaushambi District,
most popular for cultivation of best quality guava on
commercial scale. Cultivation of guava might be providing
higher net returns from per unit of land. The studies on
marketing and processing of guava did not receive much
attention by Agriculturist so far. The previous studies on
guava were mainly confined to its diseases and control.
Since guava crop used to occupy land for several years i.e.,
30-45 years or more depending on management practices.
However, since last six to seven years guava growers has
been observing disease called guava wilt, every year about
5 to 12 per cent plants die within a very short time. Also
the life of the orchard which used to be 30-35 years or
more has been observed to be about 18-20 years only.
Therefore, it seems important to study the marketing and
processing aspects.
7. Under the existing situation farmers,
intermediaries and processors engaged in the process
of marketing and processing are eager to know the
prospects of marketing and processing. Further the
farmers face several problems in the production of
quality fruits and its successful marketing, because
under existing handling practices, shelf life of guava is
3-5 days. Therefore most of fruits are sold in the local
market. The study would be confined to observe
various aspects of marketing and processing of guava
so as to estimate profitable flexibility. This will help to
guava growers and processors to continue or increase
the area and processing of this fruit crop. This study
would provide scope for employment to people
engaged in production related inputs, processing,
transport as well as funding agencies.
8. JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM
• The present study aims to study the prospects of processing and
marketing of guava. The cost of marketing and processing of guava
would reveal the nature and extent of investment involved in the
marketing and processing. This would serve as the guideline to the
cultivator for their rational decision in farming system in the region
and also other stock holders. The present marketing study will also
reveal the marketing situation and price spread involved in
marketing of guava. The findings of the study would help the
research institutions and extension agencies for further research.
This may act as guideline for financing institutions to determine the
size of finance to be provided to cover the input requirement during
cultivation of guava and the time to be allowed for the repayment
of the loan. This would also help to encourage private and
government agencies to set processing units of guava which would
safeguard the interest of the producer to continue production by
avoiding glut in the market during the peak season depending on
assured supply of the fruit.
9. There is positive relation between production
and marketing and efficient marketing plays a key role
in getting the higher net returns to the producers. The
findings on the problems faced by guava producer and
processor would be helpful in taking steps to improve
market efficiency which would encourage the new
cultivators for the adoption of guava orchard and the
old producers to increase the area under production of
quality guava. These aspects would no doubt increase
the demand and supply of nutritive food for the
masses at moderate price with nourishing value and
good taste. Thereby, this would enable to increase
quantity and quality fruits and its different products for
masses.
