5. Cincinnati Baketball
• stands among the nation’s elite in college basketball.
• Six Final Four appearances, and back-to-back national
championships, are accomplishments only a handful of
programs can boast.
• In fact, UC is one of the widnningest teams in NCAA
Tournament history. The Bearcats have compiled a 40-
23 record in NCAA play for a .635 percentage.

6. Cincinnati Baseball
•The Cincinnati Reds are a Major League Baseball team.
Originally named the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the name was
shortened in the 1890s.
•baseball's first openly all-professional team, was founded in
1866, and became fully professional in1869. The Red Stockings
won 130 straight games throughout 1869 and 1870, before being
defeated by the Brooklyn Atlantics.

becoming a founding member of the American Association in

7. Cincinnati football
•The Bearcat football program is one of the nation's oldest,
having fielded a team as early as 1885.That ranks as the eighth-
oldest and 11th-longest running in NCAA Division I college
football.

•The program has also either won outright or shared five
conference championships in the last seven years and reached
a bowl game every year, with only one exception, since 2006.
8. Cincinnati Soccer
• Cincinnati has a proud history of passionate support for
soccer at every level.
• Youth programs offer high-level training for youth. High
school teams from Cincinnati have won 14 state
championships in division I, II, and III in the last 40 years.
• On the collegiate level, there are multiple successful
programs. The University of Cincinnati has 3 NCAA
tournament appearances and has won 2 Big East
conference championships.
• Four former UC players were even selected in the Major
League Soccer SuperDraft . Not far down the road from UC
is Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
9. Cincinnati Swimming&Diving
• UC had a women's swimming team as far backstroke as the
1920's, but it didn't become an official varsity sport until the
early 70's. Formal competition began in 1923 after the
formation of the Women's Athletic Association Council.
• This group sponsored inter-class, inter-sorority and non-
sorority tournaments, offering a cup to the winner of each.
There was also competition with local high school and YMCA
teams, with a few intercollegiate meets as well.
10. Cincinnati Golf
•Elder's golf program began in 1930. In the school's first match
against arch-rival Western Hills, the Panthers bowed to the
Maroon and Cream by a 7-5 score in a match played at the
Western Hills Country Club. Western was led byJohnny Fischer,
the town's top prep golfer, who later won national honors for his
prowess on the links.
11. Cincinnati Track&Field
• The Fifth annual Field Day was held on May 30. The
beginning of school records dates back to this event.(1891)
• The first official track team sanctioned by the University is
started. (!892)
• The track team did not materialize, and the field day was not
held following a problem arranging dual meets.(1899)
