Slides for our workshop "Designing for Collaboration - how can we design contexts that encourage empathy?" at betahaus Aug-29 2013. My key suggestions were: (1) in any situation we have a choice to express or deny our mutual connectedness; (2) collaboration can't be pushed, so we better let go than trying to "buy" or impose empathy (as I experience daily with my kids) (3) but we can design contexts and influence how people interpret what they experience; Thanks to the Royal Society RSA (funding), the Stanford Peace Innovation Lab, Dan Lockton, Sebastian Deterding, the go21 network and many others for supporting the event!
