The document discusses various media technologies used to create a documentary, radio trailer, and magazine spread. These included a video camera to film footage, a microphone for audio recording, headphones to monitor audio levels, Final Cut Express for video editing, Blogger to plan tasks and publish work, Slideshare to share evaluations, YouTube to publish the documentary, Microsoft Word for writing scripts and notes, Garage Band to add background music, and Adobe InDesign to design the magazine spread. While the technologies were generally easy to use, better initial planning of tasks and end goals may have optimized use of the tools.
How Irving Sewell used media technologies in construction and evaluation
1. How did you use media technologies in the
technologies in the construction and research, planning
Irving Sewell and evaluation stages
There was a number of different technologies
used to create the documentary, radio trailer and
Double page spread (TV listings magazine).
To create the documentary the main things that
were need was the video camera to do the
filming, computer leads to transfer the recorded
footage and a software for the apple Mac
computers called final cut express the construct
the documentary and for editing of the
documentary such as effects, volume and cutting
of clips.
2. Video camera
The video camera was the most important
technology used for the documentary. It was
what the group used to record the video footage
and with out that their would have been nothing
to work with on final cut express.
I found the video camera very easy to use
because it was just making sure the camera was
positioned properly to ensure we go the footage
we needed.
3. Microphone
The microphone was also an important tool used
throughout the project.
It was used for the recording of the sound for the video
recordings and the voice over for the documentary and
radio trailer.
The use of the microphone was not hard but it required a
bit of skill with use because you had to make sure the
microphone was positioned in the best possible place to
receive the best sound levels. When using the microphone I
had to make sure the background noise did not outweigh
the sound we wanted and also had to make sure that the
places where we filmed would not make the footage sound
echoed or distorted.
4. Headphones
Headphones were also another important tool
used throughout the project.
It was used alongside the microphone for
checking that the sound levels for the
documentary and radio trailer were good and not
too low, too high or distorted.
Headphones were an essential because without
them the sounds levels would not have been as
good as they were
They were easy to use and it was just ensuring
the sound was suitable by listening carefully
5. Final cut express
Final cut express was the most important technologies used
throughout the whole project.
I found the use of this program quite easy and the more
times I used it I started to become more efficient using the
program. It was mainly used for cutting and moving around
clips to make sure they were positioned in the correct place
To get footage onto the program you have to log and
transfer it so you have access to the file.
6.
7. Blogger
Blogger was used throughout the project to keep a
track of what tasks we done and what tasks needed to
be done. The group used blogger also to upload a
timetable of what should be done on each day of the
week and who should do it. This was good because it
meant everyone knew exactly what to do and when
working on the three media products everybody knew
what task they was required to do.
Blogger was also useful because it was used to upload
the media products to put and display so they could be
viewed.
8. Slideshare
Slideshare was used for uploading the
evaluation that I done so that it could be
viewed.
It is useful because it worked as a good way of
uploading the PowerPoint (evaluation) on to
blogger, so it could be viewed in a more
efficient way
As a whole I found using slideshare as
something that was quick and easy to use.
9. YouTube
YouTube was used as a way of uploading the
completed documentary so it could be viewed. In
order for it to be uploaded the video file had to
be a supported video format such as mp3, avi etc.
When we converted the video file on final cut
express it just had to be saved and uploaded. As a
whole using YouTube was a easy way of
uploading the documentary because it was just a
few simple steps
10. Microsoft Word
Microsoft word was used for a number of
different things such as creating the
questionnaires, evaluating other documentaries,
scanning edit decision lists for the final
documentary. It was used for other things such as
radio trailer scripts, typing up the text for the
magazine so their was no spelling mistakes and
more.
It was important and easy to use it was use to
write up important notes about documentaries
that would be needed for the evaluation.
11. Garage Band
Garage band was used by the group to create the
background music for the radio trailer. I along with another
member in the group constructed a instrumental for the
background music of the radio trailer.
Garage Band was relatively easy to use it was a simple
process of uploading audio from the clips off final cut
express to garage band and dragging them on to the
program and making sure it was in time with the music and
the volume was at the correct level in proportion to the
music.
Garage Band was a very useful program to me because it
made constructing the radio trailer simple.
13. Adobe InDesign
Adobe InDesign was used for the construction of the
Double page spread.
It was reasonably easy to used. As the group planned out in
advance how we wanted the double page spread to look
before we started actually making the page using InDesign.
The program made it quite easy to make the program
because of the toolbar at the side.
The main way the double page spread was created was by
attaching pictures, clips from the documentary, and logos
to the program then writing a article about cyber bullying
the would fit the look of the double page spread meaning
the colours used and images
14. Conclusion
As a conclusion I think I used the technology
that was available to the group effectively and
made best use of the things we used.
However I think if the group had planned out
the tasks more and planned how we wanted
the media products to look like more than
what we did I think we would have got better
use of the technology and that could have
meant the media products being better than
what they are.
