2. MODULE AIM
The main aim of this module is to introduce the
fundamental concepts of the Internet of Things and its
applications,architecture and history.

4. INTRODUCTION
An IoT is the ability of things(whether that be beings or
objects) to be set up to communicate with each other
and transfer data without human prompting.
Embedded systems with electronics, software, sensors
Network of Physical Objects
5. A BIT OF HISTORY
The term "Internet of Things" is coined by Kevin Ashton
1999.
Early example, 1982, Coke machine at Carnegie Mellon
University was connected to internet: report its inventory
and temperature
6. ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES
RFID - To identify and track the data of things.
Sensor -To collect and process the data to detect the
changes in the physical status of things.
7. CONT…
Smart Technologoy -To enhance the power of the
network by devolving processing capabilities to different
part of the network.
Nano Technology - To make the smaller and smaller
things have the ability to connect and interact.
9. GLOBAL DATA GENERATION
Everyday around 20 quintillion (10^18) bytes of data
are produced.
This data includes textual content (unstructured, semi-
structured, structured) to multimedia content (images,
video and audio), on a variety of platforms (enterprise,
social media, and sensors).
15. CONT…
Smart Environment
Forest Fire Detection
Earthquake Early Detection
Smart Water
Chemical leakage
Water Leakages
Manufacturing
16. CONT…
Building and home automation
Media
Energy Mangement
Automotive
Transportion
17. CHALLENGES
Some of the major IoT challenges are privacy, data
storage, smart sensing instrumentation and
measurements, data analytics, and visualization of real-
time data in the IoT enabled application.
Privacy – will be a huge issue when implementing IoT
Identity - Online Fragmentation of Identity
18. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, we can say that rich new information
sources will run at your fingertip.
The evolution of the next generation mobile system will
depend on the creativity of the users in designing new
applications.
This presentation provides an overview on Internet of
things.
