If you haven’t seen Google Transit before, here’s an example. This is Google Maps at maps.google.com. We’re going to use it to plan a trip from my old house in Arcata to the Humboldt County airport.
Several good reasons
To make the same trip as in the previous example, this is what we’d need to do.
This doesn’t just seem complicated; it’s hard for most people.
This is something most online users are already familiar with.
Not only most only online users, but the vast majority of Americans. Most people expect that young people (18-29 yrs old) are overwhelmingly online, but note of 50-64 year olds, more than two thirds are online. These are people who may have never rode transit in their adult life, but may be facing mobility challenges in the future… giving them transit information in a familiar online format will make the transition easier.
For driving trips where transit is available, Google shows a “Take transit” options
New audiences include non-English speaking audiences: 12 languages
