Purpose of the Project
1. What is the specific purpose of the project?
With this project, the opportunity presented itself to
further educate/provide continuing education to the staff
nurses, patients, and family members on specific measures
related to care after a thoracotomy. This educational
presentation will provide detailed look at types of lung
surgeries through a thoracotomy approach.

Significance of the Project
1. Realistically, how will it benefit the Unit/Institution?
Topic: Care of a patient after a thoracotomy
Significance of the project: In the last 2 years, the unit has not had any type of
formal education/re-education on this topic. CNS & preceptor thought this would
be very beneficial for their unit. Target audience would be new staff members
within the past 2 years, along with re-educating existing staff.
