Welcome to the special
relationship you can have with
ActionAid Child Sponsorship
FACTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE INFORMED
ON SPONSORSHIP….
18. End poverty. Together
1. What is child sponsorship?
Child sponsorship is about sponsoring a child and supporting her/him
to help the family and the community of poor and deprived people in
which the child lives.
2. How would you be making a difference?
Your contribution gets dispersed very judiciously to your sponsored
child, and also her/his family. Meanwhile, a portion of it also helps
fund a variety of important projects – education, health, shelter, and
the like – which will enable the community of poor people to overcome
problems of poverty and deprivation they face.
19. End poverty. Together
3.How much should you contribute?
A minimum of Rs. 6,000 a year or Rs. 18,000 for 3 years per child.
4. Would you be able to write to your sponsored child?
You can write to your sponsored child:
•in English or any other language which will then be translated if
necessary; and
•using your own handwriting since your sponsored child would
love to treasure your letter.
20. End poverty. Together
5.What would you receive from your sponsored child?
- a poster with photos/drawings/handicrafts which could be a
‘journey’ map of how she/he has been living or visiting in the local
area; and
- a letter narrating some incident in her/his life.
6. How long does the sponsorship go on?
Change is a slow process. It is usual that you see the child through the
formative years and help her/him grow up. This implies a commitment
of at least 3 years. However, this is not compulsory. One year’s initial
sponsorship will also do to begin the partnership...
