Brought to life by Adobe Digital Index. 81% of consumers think travel costs have increased or stayed the same since last year. But actually, domestic flights have decreased by 6.6%. With more people traveling close to home, it's no surprise that summer plans are focused on car travel. Air travel cools its jets. For the 2016 summer vacation, most people plan to vacation right here in the USA. Find beauty in your backyard. We compared our flight cost estimates to AAA driving cost estimates, at .57 cents a mile. For one person, trips over 300 miles round trip are cheaper to fly. For 2+ any trips over 800 round trip are cheaper to fly. Wheels vs wings. Travel’s getting cheaper. Experiences can get a little richer. 24% of consumers worry that costs will rise if they wait. Sometimes, procrastination is a good thing. On average, the best time to buy domestic flights is around 90 days before departure. That can change substantially for big summer holidays. Beat the holiday price surge. If you wait until the last week to buy a flight, some destinations are more forgiving than others. For last-minute trips, California is not the golden get-a-way. If you’re not sure if you’re paying too much for a plane ticket, use this formula. If the answer’s more than your ticket, you’re probably paying more than average. Pay the right price, every time.
