 Output is data that has been processed into a useful
  form
 Hardcopy : Hardcopy refers to printed output
 Softcopy : Softcopy refers to data that is shown on a
display screen or is in audio or voice form.

 An output device is any type of hardware
component that conveys information to one
     or more people
 Display Devices
 Printers
 Speakers
 Data projectors

 Chapter # 3 , page # 93

 Most commonly used output device
 Categories of Monitors
       Monochrome monitors
       Grayscale monitors
       Color monitors
       See page # 94

CRT monitor (Page # 95)
A CRT, for cathode-ray tube, is a vacuum
tube used as a display screen in a computer or
video display terminal. Images are represented
on the screen by individual dots or “picture
elements” called pixels. A pixel is the smallest
unit on the screen can be turned on and off or
  made different shades.

Flat-panel display - made up of two plates of glass
separated by a layer of a substance in which light is
     manipulated

     Categories of LCD
Active-matrix - each pixel on the screen is
     controlled by its own transistor
     TFT- Thin film transistor
     Passive-matrix - a transistor controls a whole row or
     column of pixels

 Paper-white displays
 Creates higher contrast , Used by desktop publishing
specialists, newspaper or magazine compositor and
other persons who creates high quality printed
             documents
 Electroluminescent Displays(ELDs)
 Uses phosphorescent film held between two sheets
of glass. A grid of wires sends current through the film
             to create an image
 Plasma Display
These are display devices that use gas plasma technology

11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 7
 Size
 The Larger the size the bigger the image
       Measured diagonally
 Resolution
 Sharpness and clarity of image
 Number of pixels on the screen
       640X480 means 640 pixels horizontally and 480
        pixels vertically
       Video graphics array
11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 8
 Refresh Rate
 Number of times per second that the electron
        gun scans pixels on screen
       Measured in Hertz
 Dot Pitch
 The distance between the liked colored phosphor
        dots of adjacent pixels
       Measured as a fraction of a millimeter(mm)

11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 9
 A printer produces text and graphics on a
     physical medium
 Printed information is called a hard copy, or
        printout
       Landscape or portrait orientation
 Impact printers
 Non impact printers

11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 10
 Impact printers form characters and graphics
on a piece of paper by striking a mechanism
against an inked ribbon that physically
     contacts the paper
       Dot matrix printer
        ▪ Line Printer
        ▪ Band Printers

11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 11
 A nonimpact printer forms characters and
graphics on a piece of paper without actually
     striking the paper
       Laser Printer
       Ink-Jet Printer
       Thermal Printer

 It is used to print large format images
 Used for architectural, engineering drawings
     and construction maps
 Drum Plotter
 Flatbed Plotter

 An audio output device produces
  music, speech, or other sounds
 Most computer users attach speakers to their
  computers to:
 Generate higher-quality sounds for playing games
       Interact with multimedia presentations
       Listen to music
       View movies
 Headphones are speakers that cover your head
or are placed outside of the ear
 Earbuds (also called earphones) rest inside the
  ear canal
11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 16
 A data projector is a
     device that takes the
     text and images
     displaying on a
     computer screen and
     projects them on a
     larger screen
       Digital light processing
             (DLP) projector
11/21/2012 Designed by Prof. Anosha Khan 17
 An interactive
     whiteboard is a touch-
     sensitive device,
     resembling a dry-erase
     board, that displays
     the image on a
     connected computer
     screen
 Home Task all-in-one
     peripherals, photo
     printer, Dye-
     sublimation Printers
