Carol Mueller (current DEAM President) agreed to be the MMATYC DEAM Liaison for the next year.
Matt Lochmann is no longer interested in MMATYC Student Mathematics League rep going forward. Volunteers were solicited. Sarah Hand volunteered.
Mid-Atlantic Regional VP Dan Fahringer was unable to attend today, but will be at the spring MMATYC conference and meeting.
Deborah Wrobel has left. So, Carol Mueller said she would cover that for now.
The minutes were given orally as:
Meeting was held on Friday during lunch.
Evan presided over the spring meeting.
He welcomed everyone and thanked the vendors (Cengage and Pearson) for their time and contributions to the conference, the workshop presenter and the keynote speaker for taking time to do so, and the attendees for participating in the conference..
Reminded everyone that the AMATYC conference would be held in San Diego, CA from November 9 through 12 [2017].
Introduced the Executive Board members who were present.
Listed all of the MMATYC Campus representatives and thanked them for volunteering to share MMATYC/AMATYC communications with the colleagues at their institutions.
Recognized the MMATYC 2017 conference coordinators: Lisa Feinman and Christine Mirbaha.
Tom Crawford, Treasurer, gave his report regarding the number of attendees for the conference (there were no additional registrants, only those who pre-registered) and stated that the final report would be written after all debts were paid.
AMATYC Mid-Atlantic Regional VP Dan Fahringer addressed the attendees. Asked everyone to attend AMATYC in San Diego. Also asked everyone to participate in social media postings for this conference (pictures, etc.) on the AMAYTC Mid-Atlantic and MMATYC Facebook and Twitter sites.
Evan went on to say that this spring conference was the first in the new two-day format.
Next year’s (2018) conference was announced as being held at Wor-Wic. Since it is May 31st and June 1st, people might want to make plans to go to the beach either before the conference (Memorial Day weekend is the weekend prior) or after the conference.
Evan then gave a recap of the Winter 2017 Business Meeting.
He asked people to provide input on how they liked the conference and asked for other feedback.
Again, he reminded everyone to visit the vendors.
Then, he introduced the keynote speaker, Rick Cleary.
New for MMATYC conference registration: if you recruit someone to go to MMATYC your name will go into a pool for the free registration fee for the upcoming 44th Annual AMATYC Conference this coming November 2018.
Several people paid their dues at this meeting.
Evan noted that we are in the IRS’s good graces and everything is fine and good.
MMATYC Newsletter has the winning information.
DMC position statements coming later in this meeting.
ITL position statement announcement coming out in AMATYC Newsletter.
AMATYC IMPACT endorsement being encouraged/solicited.
Position statement for each ANet being worked on and will hopefully be forthcoming soon. Adjunct Issues paper had first reading at San Diego. Second reading and vote will be at Orlando.
Winter edition due out soon; so, please send items for inclusion to Sarah Miller: smiller10@ccbcmd.edu
Christine’s appointment formally announced.
Tom Crawford has put his name in. No-one else did. He is voted in by acclamation (uncontested and no negative votes).
Lisa passed out and reviewed the three position statement drafts. Position statements are statements by AMATYC as items that are recommended/endorsed.
Student Success: Things that recommends and endorses these items. Please send Lisa any feedback in the next couple of weeks.
Fostering Learning: Please provide feedback if you wish.
Adjunct Faculty: Send feedback to Judy, Lisa or Christine
Theme is still TBD; will let Josiah and Sarah Miller know asap.
Letting other affiliates know to draw them to the conference, as well.
Wor-Wic CC will do 2019. At Spring 2018 Conference we will ask for 2020.
Hopefully, the colleges that will offer to host 2020 and 2021 will not charge; CCBC did, but all other hosts to date have not charged for facilities usage.
Can we look at other dates for future conferences, too?
Some people were unaware of the dates.
Updated names appear on this slide.
