Khalafallah et al. compared academic careers of US MD/DO graduates and international medical graduate (IMG) neurosurgeons trained in the US and identified factors predictive of academic success.1 They found that IMGs are more likely to complete pre-residency postdoctoral research fellowships (PPRFs) (OR= 9.19; P<0.0001) and pursue academic neurosurgery careers compared to American medical graduates (AMGs) (59.7% vs 51.1%; P=0.011). In this correspondence, we discuss their findings and suggest steps that can help IMGs integrate into US neurosurgery.
