A consulting firm analyzed sales data from 1500 fast food franchises and found they were all declining over the past 18 months. From a random sample of 120 franchises, 36 showed signs of mismanagement. To estimate the proportion of all franchises suffering from mismanagement with 95% confidence, the consultant calculated the sample proportion, the standard error, and used a z-score of 1.96 to determine the confidence interval is between 21.8% and 38.2%.
