2. Initial Reaction
WHAT COULD I MAKE?
• Adventure Game – Exploring a map, Escaping a specific area, Fantasy
world (medieval).
• Action Game – Fighting in a war (WW2), Criminal Heist, Car chase game.
• Horror Game – Haunted House, Murder Mystery.
WHAT AM I GOOD AT?
• I am good at creating Pixilated Game Characters on Photoshop, I’m also
good at creating backgrounds to create a area for these characters I make,
I could create a city background, a castle and a Mario themed background
(green field with blue sky and clouds).
MY OPINIONS?
• One of my personal opinions I have for 8bit video games is that I think
they are very nostalgic, I used to really enjoy them when I was little and to
create my own feels really enjoyable. I do also think that 8bit video games
have a very simple strategy to them, most that I have played only consist
on going from one destination to another to complete them game.
4. Mind Map
I am choosing to create a maze based game because used to
enjoy playing Pac Man, I feel the style of Pac Man can give
me some good ideas on how to create my maze and
characters for this game.
This game will be a Sci – Fi game set on an alien Planet, my
character will need to travel through the maze avoiding
contact with Alien enemies to keep their health and
complete the game, my Character will need to reach the
destination on the other side of the maze if they want to
Finish. In my game there will be special gold tokens to collect
which will gain the players extra XP when finished.
I am aiming to have two separate mazes for two separate
levels, level one will be a fairly easy maze to follow with less
enemies inside, level two will be much harder with a more
complex maze with twice as many enemies than level one.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
REPEATED COLOURS
In my mood board my chosen pictures all share similar colours, most of them choose to use a blue sky with white
clouds if it is a game that Is based outside. A few have used Green trees and plants and Red for their terrain.
IMAGE STYLES
They all share similar Image styles, traditional 8bit retro games are usually based outside using a field as its main
terrain, another popular Image style I have noticed in my pictures is the cities in the backgrounds, they may choose to
use a city to make it feel like the game is based in the real world.
FONTS
The Fonts in my images have the same 8bit styles to fit in with the look of the games, most are all Pixilated and share
the same grey colour.
TONE – MOOD
The tone and mood of the games I have taken images of all seem fun to play and gaze upon, most of the images share
bright and engaging colours, some of the images that show the games based at night may give off a dark and sadistic
mood to the player and may still be fun but scary at the same time.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
My mood board will influence my final product by showing me colours that make games look good, It
also gives me inspiring ideas to try and replicate some of the elements used to create the backgrounds
and scenery in the games such as textures and items used to add more attention to detail.
7. Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Production Experiments,
Initial Response, Product
Research
create a short experiment to practise skills for
when I later create my final video game product.
Complete my initial response exploring my
different ideas and coming to a decision on what
game I want to create.
2 Product Research, Proposal,
Planning
research other different games which will be similar to
my final product, explore techniques and skills used to
create elements in my game such as characters and
backgrounds etc.
Create a formal proposal which will describe my game
and who it is most suited for. Age groups, social
groups etc.
3 Production the beginning stage of creating my game, create my
backgrounds characters and enemies
Create objects that will be scattered around my maze,
gold tokens, keys and treasure.
Create my two mazes for my two levels, maze in level
one to be fairly easier and level two to be harder.
4 Production Put all of my created objects,
characters, backgrounds and mazes
into one so I can start animating my
game using the Photoshop timeline.
Animate and finish my game, animate
both levels and move my characters
around the mazes
5 Evaluation After I have finished animating I need
to explain how and why I created this
type of game, why did I choose the
gene? How did I animate the game?
Evaluate every step I took to create it.
