Jung theory of personality in Psychology
1. Jung Theory of
Personality (1914)
J.C Jung was pioneer of Analytical
psychology
In 1914 He introduced concept of
Analytical psychology
Word of persona taken from Latin
language mean ‘’Mask’’
Prepared by; Ali
M. Sc Psychology
2. Dynamics of Personality
Jung also named psychic energy is libido
Libido works on two principles
Equivalence
Entropy
3. Equivalence
According to Jung person use libido for
different works
If person use less libido for work other energy
do not waste, but it can used for any other
work is called equivalence
4. Entropy
Entropy mean flow of energy from higher level
to lower, if one value become weak other will
become powerful.
E.g. if one person is less interested in Math and
more interested in psychology gradually will
become masters in psychology but the power
of Math solving will totally finish
5. Structure of personality
He named personality to psyche and consist of
Interacting Systems
1- Conscious Ego
2- Personal unconscious
3- Complexes
4- Collective unconscious
5- Archetypes
6- Anima/ Animus
6. Conscious Ego
According to Jung Conscious ego is mind
which made person’s perception, memory,
thinking and emotions.
Conscious ego has relationship with
personal ego and collective unconscious
If conscious ego effected by one personality
will become unstable
1- if conscious ego effected by personal
unconscious personality will ordinary
2- And if conscious ego effected by collective
unconscious personality will religious,
lonely, silent etc
7. Personal Unconscious
P.U. consists of a such experiences which was
part of conscious
According to Jung And Freud P.U. contains
memories, impulses, wishes, faint perceptions
and other experiences that have been
suppressed or forgotten
8. Complexes
Ideas, feeling and memories relating to some
particular thing are attracted to the nucleus and
form a complex of particular thing
Each complex has a nucleus which acts as a
kind of magnet attracting to its various
experiences
Jung discussed mother, father, religious and
sexual complexes
9. Archetypes
Such components by which could made
Collective Unconscious are called
archetypes
Jung identified many archetypes like
baby, mother, God, death, angel, hell,
scholar, magic unity, hero, earth, animal,
demon or old wise man
Some archetypes have evolved, names
Persona
Anima
Animus
Self
10. Persona
It is the mask which is worn by the person
in response to the demands of social
settings
Shadow It is the darker self, the
animalistic part of personality
Anima the feminine archetypes in man
is called Anima
Animus the masculine archetype in
women is called Animus
Self the self try to synthesize all
components of their personality, Jung
called this unity self actualization
11. Collective Unconscious
The factors which are present in
unconscious and produced by ancestry’s
experiences is called C.U.
According to Jung Collective unconscious
is the inherited, what persons learns as a
result of experiences is substantially
influenced by C.U.
Jung referred to each inherited
predisposition contained in the C.U. from
the beginning of life
12. Types of Personality
1- Introversion person tends to be quite,
imaginative and more interested in ideas
then in interacting with people, libido
directed inward…less confident and
resistant to the external environment
2- Extroversion person is outgoing and
social…self confident in varieties of
situation
Jung believed that the mature, healthy, adult
personality reflects both attitudes about equality
