1. History of Horror Films
What is a horror film?
A horror is a specific movie genre aiming to make the viewer react emotionally
and in a negative way, making them scared by including the things that they
are most scared by in the film. E.g. spiders, clowns, ghosts, etc.
Horror films can be based on supernatural, cult, fantasy and science fiction
themes as well as many more. Horrors aim to make the viewer not forget the
things they see in the film.
History of horror films
Le Manoir du diable was the first known silent short horror film
by Georges Méliès in the late 1890’s.
The earliest proper horror movies were based on early
nineteenth century literature such as Dracula and Frankenstein
(both 1931). From this time onwards, horror films became a
growing success and became increasingly popular in the film
industry. Nowadays we are exposed to many new horror films every year,
some of the newest releases including Scream 4, Insidious and Final
Destination 5.
