2. Target audience
• After doing research regarding my indie/alternative genre, I have come to the
decision that my magazine would be aimed at individuals from the age 16 to 25
with a mix of both genders. My justification of this would be, that the age range is
a reflection of the main age range related to the indie music genre, therefore it is
relative to the main theme of my magazine. Younger people would be more open
to listening to new music and going to more gigs therefore it is a suitable age for
my target audience.
• Another reason being the age restrictions on concerts, gigs and festivals. This is a
very important thing to take into consideration, because anyone younger than 16
would not be open to the same opportunities someone older would be.
• This music genre is mainly very adolescent orientated not just by the people who
listen to this genre of music, but also in terms of the people making the music as
the majority of indie artists are from a younger generation

4. Audience profiles
• These profiles fit my target audience because they both
enjoy the type of music DISTINCT magazine promotes
which means that they would enjoy the content of the
magazine, both individuals have an eye for style and
appreciate different types of art forms which is included in
the indie subculture, therefore they are the ideal example
of the type of readership that would be attracted to my
music magazine.
• They also read magazines similar to mine, such as LOUD
AND QUIET which means that mine would automatically
appeal to them, not just due to the content my magazine
includes, but also in terms of what it looks like, as much of
my magazine is influenced by designs from both LOUD AND
QUIET and CLASH magazine.
5. The appeal of an indie magazine
• An indie magazine is appealing due to its more alternative content in comparison
to other, more mainstream magazines. On a whole, indie magazines help to
introduce new music that may have not been heavily publicised. therefore, overall
it helps to give the ‘indie’ individuals a place to discover new music they may not
have otherwise heard of, or had access to.
• DISTINCT magazine would be appealing to ‘indie’ individuals as it not only focuses
on the more popular indie artists but also completely contemporary ones who are
otherwise unheard of in the indie scene.
• Despite the fact it is mainly a music magazine, there would also be influences from
a number of different art forms such as fashion and art which would make it even
more appealing to a wider range of individuals.
6. Uk tribes
Once doing research on my target audience, I found out that some individuals in the ‘vloggers’
catagory would be a possible audience of my magazine due to its theme of introduction of new
artists, this would appeal to them due to the fact that it would give them a something to share.
Stylers and Scensters would be another possible target audience due to their less mainstream
outlook and interest in more alternative music and fashion which fits the criteria set by my
magazines readership.
