The presentation was given at the 43rd National Systems Conference held at IIT Roorkee. The slides propose a novel design of a cost effective wiper system which also allows for the capability of rain sensing. The conventional Lucas wiper system has been replaced by a DC geared motor driven by a slider-crank and rack-pinion mechanism to achieve the same functionality. The new proposed system gives a torque reduction of 18%, weight reduction of 80% and a cost reduction of 60% over the conventional system and increase in battery life of 17.9%. The size of the overall system has also been reduced to about 1/6 the original size. The new system will be tested extensively at Mechatronics and Robotic Systems Lab, Rizvi College of Engineering, Bandra (W), Mumbai.
