Debut Collection for SS11.
Inspired by Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution, SS11 creates a series juxtaposed ideals through use of fabrics and textile processes. SS11 embodies all that is feminine with a slight air of masculinity.
3. April Travell’s exciting debut collection for SS11 ‘ascetics and asceticism’ pays
homage to Queen Marie Antoinette. Drawing inspiration from the Baroque
and Rococo period, SS11 embodies all that is feminine mixed with
juxtaposition of old and new styles.
Experimental use of fabrics are applied through out; combining radical hand
aged fabric, layered frayed edges mixed with leather and fine silks. Detailing is
inspired by French and English traditional costume along side whalebone cor-
setry from the 18th century. This is mixed with a simplistic modern silhouette,
for a more contemporary, and fresh take on women’s wear.
Soft and elegant colours are inspired, from the rich colour palette of Versailles,
and Baroque paintings. These are displayed through a heavy mix of printing
and dye techniques, to produce an eclectic mix of styles that work together
harmoniously. Hand printed garments and huge attention to detail make the
collection a relaxed, luxurious, dreamy, feminine range, appealing to a woman
who exemplifies all these attributes
