2.  Mural art is any piece of artwork that painted or applied directly on
a wall, ceiling or any permanent surfaces.
 It can be painted exterior or interior of a building but most of the
mural art were painted exterior of the building.
 The purpose of this mural art is to give positive message to other
peoples, preserve the history of the place or just to make the
building/street nicer.

3. “Little india”

4. Fritilldea A.K.A Saufi Nadzri
Fritilldea (Saufi Nadzri) the artist of little india in jonker
street, he drew this street art and the local peoples
helped to colored the art.
Due to the heritage problem in Malacca, he was then
asked to draw this mural art in the river side by Kiehl’s.
Local peoples and the tourist were gathered in jonker
street most of the time because it is the capital of
Malacca. Therefore, other peoples will raise the
awareness on the importance of preserving heritage.
The vibrant and colorful mural was finished only last
June 2015. And it has been a popular spot in Jonker
street for the tourists ever since.
Fritilldea (Saufi Nadzri) worked on this colorful mural for
the Kiehl’s store in Malacca, to brighten up the building
and the streets surrounding it.

5. Apparently they did this to celebrate our
heritages as Malaysians and they engaged
Fritilldea to draw this mural on one of the
walls at Jonker Walk. It is extremely
colorful and has a pop art vibe towards it.

color of the art. Hence, it persuades
most of the local and tourist to
preserve heritage.

heritage in Melaka leads to demolish of
old heritage.

-Artist want to encourage peoples to
know the value of heritages in Melaka in
tourist attraction areas.

7. “The Melaka River Art Project”

8. Warna Studio
Warna Arts formally known as Warna Art Studio was
established in the early year 2009 by young talented
artists WARNA Art Group is a young collective formed
from five artists, Faizal Suhif, Azli Wahid, Ali Azraie,
Razlan Adnan, and Halim Hassan. They support each
other conceptually and artistically to challenge and
exchange ideas reflective of a new generation.
Razlan Adnan is the Manager & Visual Artist at Warna
Studio. He graduated Bachelor Hons in Fine Art , Faculty
of Art & Design Universiti Teknologi Mara in the year
2008. Today, he is one of WARNA artgroup's member.
Currently, living in Shah Alam and been working in art &
design field of works.
They have been involved in many group exhibitions in the
country as well as overseas had been passionate to explore
the world of art in its fully potential.

9. This mural art wad conceptualised by the
minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohd
Rustam, who wanted to beautify the city
using art as the centrepiece.
The idea was to portrait a significant
storyline between the past and present, by
utilising images that were more
representative of Melaka.
Everything was decided within a week, and
a commissioned group of established and
upcoming artists got to work for almost a
month.

warrior who lived in Melaka in the 15th
century.
Hang Tuah make business with people from
different country and cultural background.

and respect him so much as the most
powerful admiral and warrior in the Malay
history and literature

etc.

Viewers have a better
understanding through senses of
sight. Representations of the
mural art craftsmanship itself can
appear and clarify the procedures
and things that happened
previously.

People are able get a brief
understanding about who is Hang
Tuah.

Able to identify the attires of the people
according to their gender and positions by
the Malay dress code in past.

Focus on the actions and gestures
of people.

12. “QUIT SMOKING”

ABDUL JALIL-

13. SYAFIQ RASYID BIN ABDUL JALIL
The artist behind the 3D installation.
22 years old was born on the year 1994. He
lives in Taman Dagang Ampang and he is the
student of UiTM SHAH ALAM.
Syafiq Rashyid Abdul Jalil’s creativity in his
3D installation piece ‘Quit Smoking’ earned
him the top spot and RM8,000 prize money.

14. “Quit Smoking” is an 3D
installation piece that aims to open
up the smoker’s eye as to how
harmful smoking is and how it can
affects a smoker’s life and even
worse, their loved one.

PERCEPTION
The colour black here indicates
the lung failure of a smoker
which is darkened by the
nicotine and tabacco within the
cigarettes.
2. NON-VERBAL MESSAGES
The other half failed lung
depicts how cigarettes will
cause fatal destruction to a
smoker’s health and could
ruined his life. 3. CONFLICT
The contrast between the
healthy and damaged lung
creates a conflict between non-
smoker and smoker.
4. INTERCULTURAL
COMMUNICATION
The contrast of the smoker and non-
smoker create a sense of dialogue
between a non-smoker and smoker’s
cultural.
5. MASS COMMUNICATION
The clear and distinctive message is
being shown in the public space to
the masses.

17. “single mother”

CHAI-

18. KENJI CHAI
The artist behind the mural painting is Kenji Chai
who was born and raised in the Sandakan,Sabah
and currently lives in Kuala Lumpur.
His works includes the use of cute and vibrant characters
with his main medium being graffiti combining
elements of pop culture,fictional censorship and a
positive mental attitude,in all he creates layered scenes
of mischief.

19. “Single Mother” is a mural painting
aims to portray a mother’s
unconditional love to provide the best
for her child despite the high living
cost. besides that, the artwork also
introduces the Malaysian culture as
well as the origin of orang utan.

-The mother orang utan has an
expression of fierceness mixed with
determination on her face. As she
reaches for the bananas, the complicated
exhibit of child needs are contributing
points of emphasis to her physical
appearance.

-The body posture of the
mother orang utan sense of
dynamism.
3. SPACE AND PROXIMITY
-The mother and child orang utan are
close together, signifying a close maternal
relationship.
4. CONFLICT
-Depicts the battle of a single mother
against the everyday challenge of
raising a child in an urban
environment.
5. PERCEPTION
-A somber mood conveyed through
faded colours and serious expressions
of the orang utan.

22.  The purpose of painting these mural arts is to give message to peoples about what
is so important about their culture/place/life.
 The concept applied to these mural arts is important because it shows how the
mural arts communicated with us by seeing the mural arts.
