An initiative that defines an XML formatting to describe structure, semantics, and metadata for digital scientific content. • It provides a set of elements and XML attributions to describe graphic and textual content for journal articles. • JATS is a technical standard based on the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) currently on version Z39.96 2012 (ISO z39.96-2015 (JATS 1.1; Current Standard).
