Thailand never had complete democracy It’s been governed by a dictatorial power outside         of the democratic system Those who ordered the brutal massacres of          unarmed protestors have never been brought to justice or held accountable for their action 3.    The law is used with double standards The monarchy and “lèsemajesté” Law (Article         112 of the Criminal Code) have been used for political purposes by the ruling regime
dictatorship under an elite power outside parliamentary system 1973-present  22 coup d'étatby the royal thai military DESTROYED 18 CONSTITUTIONS - THE HIGHEST LAW OF THE COUNTRY
1ST MASSACRE     Brutally killing people in the city centre without bringing those responsible to justice 14 October 1973  student uprising to demand for democracy    77 people died, 857 people injured and many people missing
2ND MASSACRE 6 October 1976 	People and students were killed and accused of being communists    41 people and students died with many unidentified casualties and missing
3RD MASSACRE “Bloody May” 18 May 1992 	44 people died, 600  people injured and  many missing
10 April 2010 	Crackdown to suppress demonstrators demanding unconditional elections 	28 died, more than 800 injured and  many missing 4th MASSACRE
5th MASSACRE 19 may 2010 	Crackdown against Demonstrators calling for electoral democracy 	63 people died, more than 1,200 injured and many missing 	300+ unarmed protestors arrested and accused of being “terrorists” and attempting  to “overthrow the monarchy” HOW MANY MORE ARE TO COME ?

  • 15. THAILAND NEEDS CHANGE Dear mother, It’s already 38 years since October 1973. I still continue to fight for democracy. Even if I fail sometimes I know that I have to rise up and fight again. I will not surrender to any dictatorship until I have victory as you requested. Thailand must be democratic and democracy must belong to the people. With Love Daeng

We propose the following for consideration:   1.The abolishment of Article 112 of the Criminal Law. There are currently. “Defamation” laws which are sufficient to protect institutions, including the Monarchy 2. Free all Political Prisoners & Prisoners of Conscience; this must include those arrested for demonstrations during the Emergency Decree & those charged with 112 3. Those who murdered protestors must be identified & brought to justice
