Student Name (please print) Ashley Mason
Teacher Mrs. Lester Date 8-15-12
All questions must be completed thoroughly to receive approval for your Senior Project. Some
projects will be submitted to a committee for final approval. This form must be completed and
returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.
The Senior Project is subject to the plagiarism policies set forth by the district and Creekview High
School.
1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
The topic I have chosen is to write a small book of fairytales in poetry format.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
My previous experience is that in Creative Writing class I took two years ago, we wrote plenty of
poetry and analyzed some fairytales in a parody format and I still continue to write some poetry on the
side. I also have read fairytales from the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
I will connect this to being a poet/published writer.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
First, I need to formulate a basic plotline to the fairytales because I want to relate each fairytale to each
other which is about seven interdependent stories. I will most likely pace across my room a few
hundred times and venting out some ideas before sitting down and typing a rough draft of each story,
but I will most likely lose interest so I will go downstairs and watch a movie to get me back into the
mood of writing again. It might take a month or two before I am satisfied with my work, or at least that
each tale is more than two-thousand words, and I will have to rest for a day so I can collect my wits.
Second, I will have to look over the work and edit out all the obvious spelling mistakes and
grammatical errors. Then, I will get my dad to drive me to the residence of my project facilitator, if my
facilitator does not prefer being e-mailed, and present my work to him or her and re-edit the fairytales
together. He or she may tell me to change a few sentences to make it more understandable for the mass
public and I may try to work my way out of that. Yet, I will adhere to the advice and try to compromise
with the advice so there is clarity but with my ideas still intact. It may take a few months until we, the
facilitator and I, are satisfied enough with the editing for it to be considered a final product. I plan to
get it bound like a book but not publish it, so it is solely for the Senior Project and my own
amusement.
5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
2. This project is a learning stretch because I have never written poetry with multiple (more than five
pages) pages before or even try to incorporate my fairytale ideas in the poetry style before. I also have
never been mentored before except when I took a Creative Writing class and I don’t really have great
social interaction skills, so I can possibly garner some ways to be social with other people and how to
get published through this.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
The estimated costs are as followed: $5.00 for printer paper, $40.00 for ink cartages for the printer,
$3.00 for a cup of Starbucks coffee, and $3.61 for a tank of gas for the car. My parents have already
covered the expense regarding printer paper, ink cartages, and gas. I will pay for the rest.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
I am considering choosing Philip Lee Williams.
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
He has written seventeen books. His poetry has been published in forty magazines, and he still
lives in Georgia.
