1. Task 10 - planning paperwork
Location Recce
For the photo-shoot we booked a studio room in the art block to make sure the images we took
were as professional looking as they could be.
This is studio room we booked. I thought this would be better then the other locations I assessed
as it had a black back drop. As I want my images to have a black background, my images will look
more professional than if , for example, I was to Photoshop a black background in. Secondly, the
studio room has extra lighting in which is an advantage for me as when taking the images in my
first location the lighting equipment I had at home is not as bright than these lights in college. The
third reason to why I picked this location is because of the projector. My classmates and I were
experimenting with the projector by cutting out shapes, placing them on the projector to see the
effect on the background would have. I realised I would be able to project the letter "U" on the
background to link in with the title of magazine.
Equipment used
1. Projector : As mentioned before, I will use the projector to help me project the letter “U” on the
back drop. I think this is a better way to have the letter in the background rather than producing
it with photoshop as this will look more real and authentic.
2. Camera : In my group of three, we will use a professional camera to produce high quality
images which would therefore have the same quality of real photoshoot images. We will use a
panasonic camera which is a high end camera and was easy to use.
3. Lighting : In the studio, they have high key lighting available which I am unable to access at
home. This is why this is better location than home as with lighting the images I produce will
look crisp and clear.
2. Prop list
1. Mannequin : Although I didn’t intend to use this as a prop in my draft designs or formal
proposal for Task 9, I noticed this in the studio room and when I take my photos I think I will use
this to experiment with to try to produce unique and unusual images to tie in with the indie pop
genre.
2. Stool : Instead of all the images being the same with my model standing up, I will have a stool
which she can sit on to offer variety and a range of different images that I can choose from in
my production of my magazine.
Make up
In Task 6, I discovered that indie female pop artists tend to wear simple make up whilst having one
striking feature. For instance, Halsey’s make up in the cover of her album “Badlands” is very simple
whilst her hair is striking blue colour. I think this shows the audience that she is an average
teenager but at the same time is unique in her own way. Therefore, I would like to do something
similar with my artist. I will ask my model to wear black lipstick as this is an unusual colour to wear
everyday and I think this can become someone which the artist can become known with, just like
marina and the diamonds make up is associated with a heart near her eye. I know this because
when I searched “marina and the diamonds makeup tutorial” many of the image results for fans
recreating her make up look had the heart near their eye (I have curled the fan made tutorials in
red and the images of Marina herself in blue).
Costumes
For the clothing, I have asked the model to wear something stylish such as a leather jacket and
leather looking jeans to go with it. As I don't want too much attention to be on the clothing I will also
3. like the look to be simple and have , for example, have plain colours such as black, greys or whites
rather than something colourful like red or blue.
