  4. 4. 4 Yamada powder transfer pumps – operation The diaphragm pump is an air- operated reciprocating pump with two diaphragms and four check valves (balls). Fluid is sucked from the bottom and discharged from the top.
  5. 5. 5 Factors for smooth operation  The powder  must be dry  must be free from lumps or flakes  particle size must not exceed 106 µm  apparent specific gravity of 0.5 or less  bulk density of not more than 0.8 kg/L* (i.e. 0.07 to 0.8 kg/L)  Pump can be located a maximum of 15 feet (4.5 m) above the powder source  PTFE check balls are recommended for sticky powders  Yamada recommends regulating compressed air to 70 PSI max (or 0.5 MPa) *L: Litres
