2. Description The title of this piece of art work is Arrest and it was completed in 1965. The elements of art that are prominent in this art work are line, value, and form. Line- wavy vertical lines that go along the artwork Value- lines fade from black to white. Form- consistent curves create ripples that make the picture look 3-d.
3. Description In this artwork there isn’t a main subject like a person, or a house. The focus would have to be the lines that are creating ripples in the picture.
4. Analysis In planning out this painting Riley probably used a grid to make sure that the visual effect that she wanted to create would work. In this picture Riley creates a idea of movement with the wavy lines. This pattern creates a sense of rhythm that makes the viewers eye move down the canvas
5. Interpretation In this painting I think that the picture is more about the viewer and what they take away from the picture. When I first look at the picture I see wavy lines, but as I look longer I began to see a long curtain that is moving in the wind.
6. Judgment Looking at this art work I thin that it is really successful. During the time period that it was created it was a very unique piece of art that caught a lot of artists attention. To be able to create this type of visual effect without a computer and to do it by hand is an amazing achievement. Her use of clean lines and precision in her planning really helps to make the illusion of movement come to life for the viewer.
