Orange News (formerly known as Ananova), as well as having some
great quirky news stories, which are great for class, also has a "News in
pictures" section with some fun things in its quirky photo gallery.

At Yahoo, you have a similar source of bizarre news stories, in its "Oddly
Enough" section. I find that they are particularly good for dictogloss, and
both the stories and images work great on the interactive whiteboard.

On the IWB, it's so easy to import things, for a start, and separating
pictures from captions gives you and easy-to-create drag-and-drop,
matching exercise.

DreamDoze, where people share their
dreams and help each other understand
them.
 The site enables your students to write down
their dreams, share them with other people
and get their interpretation of their dream.
 They can also read about other people's

This activity will show you how to get
simple quick writing practice and how to
give and receive feedback and criticism
of your written work.
 The activity is based around a site called
Five Card Stories and will help you to
create a story based on 5 images.

Improve critical skills
 Students read more to be successful
 They have a motivation to read and
speak.
 After debates they can write reflection
letters.













Firstly Ss look at the photographs, select at least 8-10 of them, and
decide how the people are related (relatives? work? living in the
same block? friends? married?)
Ss decide what "the story" is going to be (someone gets/doesn't
get the job, win lottery, consequences, etc., etc…)
Ss make brief "character notes" on the people selected (name,
age, background, job , character…)
Ss decide what written texts there could be that would "tell" the
story (job applications, emails, memos, reports, post-it notes…)
Ss agree on and make any alterations necessary for the story to
be coherent
Ss then write the texts (in pairs, not individually), and post them on
a blog
Ss write comments on the blog (both on the content, and to
provide feedback on the project)
T (=teacher) provides feedback, correction, etc.
Playing with words, creating interactive
writing games. You can choose the plot,
the setting, the character…
 After you finish, you can print and e-mail

Firstly, you need to find at least three compare and contrast
essays (you can change the essay type of course:)).



Secondly, paste them to the word and organize it like the
sample below. Add outer border to the pieces.



Thirdly, print the essays and cut them into pieces and mix.



Divide the class into groups and call the first group and set the
timer.



Each group need to form one essay correctly of course in the
fastest time.



Don't let the other groups look at the cards before the game
started. (Because they may memorize the organization of the
essays.)



Finally, choose the fastest group.
