1. BOOK PROJECT, QUARTER TWO BAKER
Directions: Choose one of the following projects to work on in conjunction with your
free reading book for class. Regardless of the option you choose, be sure to indicate the
author’s name and book title. Please be sure that your free reading book is approved by
Mr. Baker. Your free reading book should be appropriate for school and of appropriate
difficulty for you reading level. Your finished project should be appropriate for school,
reveal your understanding and reaction to your book, and indicate a quarter’s worth of
effort. All work must be original—earnest effort is better than glossiness. The book
project is worth 50 points.
DUE:
1. Make a soundtrack for your book. The soundtrack should include at least eight
songs that relate to the book. The songs should be appropriate for school and
from a variety of artists. For each song, include the song’s name, the artist’s
name, the lyrics, and a paragraph explanation of how the song relates to the
novel. The connections you make between the songs and the book are the most
important part—they should show a strong grasp of the main ideas of the novel.
2. Create an interview with the author or a key character from the novel. The
interviewer may be you or anyone else you can dream up. The interview should
be approximately three double-spaced pages at 12 point font. Please use
appropriate interview format. The content of the interview should reflect the
main events or ideas of the novel.
3. Create a series of drawings that show significant events from your novel.
Artwork should be original and time and effort should be reflected in the final
product. Each drawing should fill at least an 8 and ½ by 11 inch sheet. Each
drawing should include a brief description of the scene. The series should
include at least five pieces of art that reflect the main events of the novel.
4. Critique your book from the perspective of a political group. Pick a group that
would have a strong opinion about your book one way or the other. For
example, a fundamentalist religious group might oppose the Harry Potter series
for depicting the occult. However, an organization of librarians might praise the
series for increasing interest in reading among young people. You must use a
real political group. The critique should reflect the main ideas and events of the
novel. It should be approximately three double-spaced pages at 12 point font.
