Wordle is a word cloud generator that allows users to copy and paste job descriptions or resumes/cover letters to visualize the most frequently used words. Pasting a job description into Wordle will generate a word cloud where more frequently used words appear larger, allowing users to compare a job description to their resume and see how frequently key words are used. Wordle can be limited to only show the top 25 or 50 most used words for a more defined visualization of key terms.

2. What is Wordle?
• Wordle is a word-cloud generator, found at
wordle.net.
• Copy-and-paste a job description into the
wordcloud generator. Words that are used
most frequently in the description will be
bigger than words that are used less
frequently in the description.
• Copy-and-paste your resume or cover
letter into the generator to see how it
compares to the job description word
cloud.

3. Creating a word cloud using Wordle.net

4. Go to
www.wordle.net and
click on “Create”.

5. Copy-and-paste
the entire job
description into
the text box
and click “Go”.
Note: you must
have Java
Script enabled
to continue.

6. The words
that appear
the biggest in
the word
cloud are the
ones that are
used the
most
frequently in
the job
description.

7. For a more
defined word
cloud, click on
“Layout”, “maxim
um words”, and
in the pop-up
box, type in “25”
or “50”. This will
give you the
most frequently
used 25 or 50
words in the job
description.

word cloud generator to see which words
are used most frequently.
