A lead acid battery comprises a positive plate coated with lead dioxide (PbO2) and negative plate of soft spongy lead (Pb). When a current passes through electrolytic acid discharging the two types of lead converts to lead sulfate (PbSO4). During charging the two lead separate again to become Pb and PbO2. This is what is known as a full cycle of charging-discharing. Thus, battery life is measure as a certain amount of life cycles of charging and discharging.
