Greetings,
I write to endorse Mr. Bavandeep Singh. I met Mr. Singh during Spring 2015 at Middlesex
County College on the first day that I taught PHI 121 Philosophy. From the initial class meeting,
Mr. Singh played a vital role in leading philosophical discussions. He often came early to class
and stayed after to continue to converse with his peers and me about philosophical topics. It was
evident that Mr. Singh was not just concerned about getting an “A” but rather was serious about
learning the ethical theories of philosophy as they apply to everyday life. For this reason, I
invited Mr. Singh to become a part of the History and Philosophy Honor Society of MCC.
During Spring 2015, Dr. Kathleen Pearle, former Chair of the History and Social Science
Department at MCC, invited me to engage in a campus-wide lecture. I shared a lecture
presentation and a Kuchipudi Hindu dance with the campus and the general public during an
evening lecture. Mr. Singh was a part of a team that my students coordinated to help ensure the
success of the event. He assisted with advertising, prepping the technology for the event,
providing directions to off campus visitors, ushering guests into the amphitheater, and assisting
with the cleanup. Mr. Singh displayed a great enthusiasm for religious literacy and cultural
diversity throughout the entire program.
As a part of the Honor Society, Mr. Singh had the opportunity to serve as my TA when I taught
SSD 101 Student Success and PHI 123 Ethics. Mr. Singh displayed great empathy for freshmen
students who were required to enroll in Student Success. He creatively used online platforms to
communicate with students. In addition, he went above and beyond his TA duties as he
scheduled one-on-one meetings with students to tutor them to ensure their success. In PHI 123
Ethics, he assisted his peers in developing abstracts for the Undergraduate Section of the Mid-
Atlantic Region of the American Academy of Religion’s (MAR-AAR) annual conference. He
helped his peers only after he himself worked diligently on his own abstract submission. Mr.
Singh presented a research paper entitled Returning Mindfulness to the Spiritual Dimension of
Religion for the Undergraduate Section of the MAR-AAR’s annual conference in March 2016.
He participated in the Question and Answer session with a humble confidence as he moved
deeper into the issues. His research paper was published in the History and Philosophy Honor
Society Journal.
Soon, Mr. Singh was accepted to Saint John’s University as a Public Relations major. Because
of his professional drive, he remains a mentee of mine who constantly wishes to engage in
learning beyond the walls of the classroom. We continue to collaborate along with his peers
whom he built strong professional relationships with. His communication skills shine as he
maintains his relationships with his peers and me although he has transferred from MCC.
Because I have had the privilege of serving as Mr. Bavandeep Singh’s professor, I can say
without hesitation that he will be a great addition to a public relations team. His ability to
philosophize causes him to maintain an open mind with all situations as he always thinks with
clarity. As Mr. Singh’s current mentor, I believe that he is a worthy colleague that any
prominent company or institution will be lucky to have.
Sincerely,
Sabrina D. MisirHiralall, Ed.D.
