Building front-door traffic is tough, you have more control over back-door traffic.
first way to de-mystify? don't ignore your stats. spend some time playing around w/ your stats/metrics and definitely keep checking them often.... while you can't force people to link to you on their facebook accounts, you can influence search engines to rank you higher. search engines are largely automated and looking for key things to help them rank content.
"chocolate metate" grinding -- use as an example here. people will search for this, believe it or not. long tail of the internet. Even obscure terms should be researched beforehand.
You should also do a bit of keyword research anytime you start a post. Look at what's out there in search results, check Google Insights for any rising searches that fit well.

this is the phrase you want to use throughout your post. so by optimizing for this more specific term, that gives you the chance to rank higher in google for a less popular term. you want to optimize well for the small audience who is looking for this stuff overtime, this really adds up...long tail of the internet
