1. The Creative Process
1. Brainstorming:
This is when you come up with ideas for your project. There are many strategies that you can use.
Here are a few:
- word lists
- mind- mapping
- discussions
- internet search
- search books and magazines
- watch movies and t.v. shows about your subject
- make a plan for your project including a timeline with the due date
2. Researching
This is when you collect all the images and information that you might need about your project.
This includes: the materials you will use, what others have done already on the subject, what may
be written or filmed about the subject… There are many places where you can research.
Here are a few:
- the internet
- the library
- discuss with other students, friends, family and your teachers
- conduct interviews
- movies and t.v. shows about your subject
3. Experimenting
This is when you decide what materials and what design would be best to communicate your
message and express your ideas. What elements and principles of design will help you
communicate your ideas effectively? Try out a few different options and look at what your research
tells you. There are many techniques that will help you. Here are a few:
- trial and error: try out different ideas until you find one that works well.
- draw thumbnail sketches of your ideas
- draw a rough sketch
- try different materials and combinations of materials
- discuss with other students, family, friends and your teachers
4. Rough Work
This is when you have decided what materials, art forms, elements and principles will work best
and are ready to put it all together. Things can still change at this point to make your work more
successful.
5. Final Work
This is when you have worked out all the problems with your rough work and are ready for the
final work to be completed. Here you make the project ready to be presented and/or performed
for an audience.
6. Reflection
A reflection is done after the final has been presented and you look back on what worked well and
what didn’t work as well. The reflection is important because it will give you information on what
you can do to make your next project even more successful.
