lubs society
SKILLS CHALLENGE SERIES
lubss skills challenge series has been created to
aid the development of useful skills for the needs
of the industry
The society will be working alongside the
Business School as well as partners to ensure
a successful and enjoyable series of events.
Our partners will be advertised on our website
(www.lubssociety.co.uk), Facebook, posters and
in the undergraduate common room in Leeds
University Business School.
The society currently has around 400 members
and recruits upwards of 100 new members each
year.

how it works
The Trade Challenge is aimed at students who wish to
work in investment banking/asset management. The
society will use www.virtualtrader.co.uk for the Trade
Challenge, which will provide stock market simulation
in which to compete.
Participants have to register with the society in order to
obtain permission to enter the trading league and to
identify their performance.
The society will give prizes to top three entrants of the
league.

The Recruiting Challenge is designed to give ‘hands on’
experience to the students studying human resource management.
Our partner will select from groups of interested students
studying human resource management.

The participating teams will have at least three
members of the society.
A virtual company and the business environment will be
given to each team and each team has to make decisions
to meet the criteria of each situation.
A panel of judges will evaluate each team’s performance
quarterly. At the end of the academic year, the team with
the best performance will be given an award.

how it works
The participating teams will have at least three
members of the society.
At the beginning of the semester, registered teams will
choose from products/ideas presented by the company.
Each team will pick an idea/product. Each team will
create a marketing strategy for their idea/product then
present it to the panel of judges.
Five teams will be chosen to perform their marketing
campaign around the campus. The winner of the
competition will be determined by product sales.

The society will randomly assign participants into
two teams.
The society is planning to have 3 sessions in total with
each session lasting two weeks and comprising of
various tasks.
Tasks will vary depend on the partners of the session,
which may involve selling products and making
decisions as a group.
