1. Document 1;This was where the Teacher Raz, was looking to educate us on the codes and
conventions of Mixmag. In class we looked at an existing Mixmag magazine and analysed in great
depth the codes and conventions. This document itself does not contain the vast research
information, but only hints for us to create our own document.
Document 2; Armed with the ideas and questions from the first task, I was now able to complete this
task. I purchased my own copy of mixmag and in depth I had analysed the edition. This is primary
research as I am looking at the magazine myself and coming to my own conclusions. Though this is
secondary data, I am looking at this and analysing it myself.Using the internet I educated myself on
magazine conventions, so I could understand how Mixmag meets conventions itself and for what
purposes those conventions are met.
Document 3; Similar to document 2 we now looked and researched contents of Mixmag, we did this
in the same fashion and completed the grids in the same way. There was a particular focus on colour
scheme, topics discussed and other content.
Document 4; First I started off by creating a biography, this was a fabrication and is based on target
audience research as well as magazine research. The main part of the research was the creation of a
Mixmag Reader Profile, I looked various sources such as ABC. Firstly I looked at circulation,
readership and ethos. I gained audience opinion through secondary research and I formulated the
typical mixmag reader.
Document 5; This is a risk assessment, it counts as research because it focuses on photographer
obligations. I looked at rules and regulations of journalists so I can create such a risk assessment.
Document 6; I was to look at journalistic obligations when reporting on criminal cases. The case
which was focused in this assignment was the Jimmy Saville – sex abuse scandal. I was to research
the PCC to understand the editors code of practice, and I was to look at the BBC for important
information on the case.
Document 7; Another assignment that is based on journalistic obligations, this is a presentation and
it looks at various areas of the print media. Social and Cultural awareness, Representation, Race,
Gender, Sexuality, Denotation, Connotations, Credibility, Readability and Alternate Readings.
Examples are included for every point and it is a comprehensive piece of work.
