Media Studies intended institution for music video

2. As the genre of our music video is house, we came to the
conclusion that our intended institution would be MTV,
specifically MTV Dance. We decided this as dancing is one of the
main purposes of the song, and its upbeat tempo is like that of
the songs and videos that are already played on the channel.
MTV Dance also have their own play list which features the most
popular house tracks, all which have similar musical features to
‘Time’. This is shown below the presentation.

3. MTV is quite simply Music Television. It is designed for young
adults to discover what’s next in the music world, and reaches
around 387 million homes worldwide. It’s target audience is
primarily 12-34 year olds, and has something for everyone –
including house music fans. Their MTV Dance channel is 24
hours and features the biggest dance hits of the moment. Our
music video would fit perfectly on this channel as it plays the
same genre of music and out of MTV’s collective target
audience, it would have the slightly older viewers of around 16+
as house music conventionally has more explicit content, as
does our song, therefore our video would definitely be suitable
for the channel as it shares a similar target audience of 18 – 25
year olds.

This list shows the kind of programmes
that are shown on MTV Dance. Quite
evidently, there are no actual
television programmes, aside from
teleshopping in the early hours of the
morning, but mostly music charts. This
allows for the channel to focus
completely on the music and gives our
video more of a chance of being
featured. The listed shows like ‘Big
Tunes’and ‘Fresh New Vidz’ suit our
video perfectly as they are quite
general titles, enabling our video to be
shown quite frequently and not only on
specific programmes. The enthusiasm
of the titles also suit the vibrant and
lively nature of our video.
