¿What is www.cancunissafe.com?
www.cancunissafe.com is a project that was born out of the necessity to promote the good image of Cancun
a8er the swine flu crisis hit hard the Mexican tourism industry; so hard that it caused a huge drop in occupa‐
>on, and massive losses of jobs.
www.cancunissafe.com objec>ves are clear: to show the world the real image of Cancun, that of a safe,
beau:ful & incredible des:na:on, in order to help regain confidence from tourists , and fight back the ne‐
ga:ve image that was created. All this through a personal, young, different point of view. We the founders are
young people born in Cancun that know it upside down. We know all the spots, even the ones that are not so
visible and known, but s>ll equally if not some>mes more beau>ful that the Cancun everybody knows of! Plus,
we will make this the most social and easy to use website for Cancun ever. Our Social Media Exper:se
allows us to do so! The very travelers , tourists, & fans of Cancun in general will contribute to create posi>ve
promo>on, as their input will be available at all of our channels, providing future Cancun visitors with real :‐
me informa:on from real people that they can trust.
We have a strong Social Media Knowledge & Presence. We handle mul:ple Social Media Channels such as:
‐ 1 Main website, www.cancunissafe.com The main hub of the project. All our Social Media Chanels & Cam‐
paigns point here; the idea is to make it the central point of reference for social, real‐:me informa:on about
Cancun, Riviera Maya & Costa Maya. We have widgets showing all our Social Media Channels here. We also
make it easy for people to follow us and republish our ar:cles and any content by providing them with easy
step by step social buLons that make the work of publishing the ar>cle at their facebook or twiter profile easy
and quick, hence making more people choose to do it. We also have a constant Weather Channel Widget that
shows the current weather forecast for Cancun.

from where we have a community of 3,800 Followers (growing daily) with projec:on es:mates of thou‐
sands of more followers in the near future. Through these twiOer accounts we can blast any message we
choose to. We use them mainly to provide daily , updated informa>on about the des>na>ons they represent,
in this case Cancun and Puerto Morelos. My Personal Professional account is also used for marke>ng pur‐
pouses because I have a large following of Social Media Professionals, Travel Professionals, and leads as well.

‐ We are currently in the finishing touches for a personal, facebook‐style , community of leads interested in all
about Cancun, where we will gather all the people interested in hearing about news, deals, promo>ons, in‐
forma>on on where to go, what to do , where to eat, what to buy, what the locals do, ask other fellow trave‐
lers and cancun enthusiasts, provide reviews, etc. Something similar to Trip Advisor (www.tripadvisor.com),
through different in the inten>ons, but you can get a good idea by seeing Trip Advisor and understanding what
they doy. Basically its a social community of travelers, giving each others advice, ra>ng the places they have
visited, socializing, deciding where they will go next, etc.

How successful has the project been so far?
We like to say: let the numbers speak for themselves; we celebrated our barely 4 month anniversary / On No‐
vember the 15th, 2009, we celebrated our barely 5 month anniversary since we launched opera>ons, and in
this very short >me we have the following stats:
‐ Over 2,600 visits (and coun>ng) registered to the website through Google Analy>cs (GA)
‐ 5,753 pageviews (and coun>ng) (GA)
‐ TwiLer Social Comunity (twiLer.com) of over 3,800 travel‐related users; in constant and daily growth, with
projec>ons of thousands of more followers in months to come.

We have presence in mul>ple social channels:
This is real :me, fresh data. We can say we have successfully posi:oned our project in the Social Media
Sphere. With zero financial investment in any media publicity. All of our publicity was done virally, using ex‐
clusively free Social Media Channels like Facebook and TwiOer. We achieved this in a simple but hard way:
simple because there really is no secret, all you have to do is provide great content, answer your fans, treat
them well, provide them with fresh informa>on that will help them; hard because all that requires constant,
hard work.
By providing our users with extremely easy social media republishing buLons, we increase our ra:o of re‐
published informa:on through the Social Media Sphere.

6. How can the project be mone:zed?
The first phase of the project was the "seeding" phase; we posi>oned the project in the Social Media sphere,
created noise about it, aOracted the aOen>on of thousands of followers, and are successfully building a
growing social database of cancun interested travel leads. The vital difference with a tradi:onal marke:ng
campaign or leads list, is that in our case, the people follow us because they find our content interes:ng.
Any message we blast will reach 100% of our database, because they are voluntarily subscribing to our
updates. that's a huge difference with a tradi>onal email blast of thousands of recipients that you cant be rea‐
lly sure how many of them will really open the message.
Now we are in the posi>on to start mone>zing different business models for the project. These are some of
the possibili>es:
‐ Online Sales of Vaca:on Packages. We promote your vaca>on packages through all of our channels, effec>‐
vely bringing you sales.
‐ Online Sales of Eco‐Tours, Eco‐Excursions. We have already organized an eco tour to a cenote in the riviera
maya and it was a blast. We will keep organizing tours & excursions of this type, to beau>ful, not so known
spots of Cancun, Riviera and Costa Maya.
‐ Online Room Sale through our social media channels. We sell your hotel rooms through all of our channels.
‐ Lead Genera:on for your business. You give us your product, we send you the people.
‐ Strategic, segmented Social Media Marke:ng campaign consul:ng services for your business. We apply the
same know how we used to build our company to help success yours in the Social Media Sphere.
‐ Promo:on to small businesses through our social media channels. If your business is s>ll small and you dont
have a big budget, we can s>ll work together by promo>ng your business through our channels.
‐ Whatever else you can think of, basically!
