1. What would you see going on in the classroom?
2. What are some of the things you would hear from
the teacher and the students?
• Independently generate responses as it pertains to each
instructional practice on a post it
• Post your responses on the white board next to the
appropriate instructional practice

14. Time to Reflect!
As PD Liaison…
• How do you assess the professional learning needs of
the teachers in your school?
• What are your school’s professional learning priorities for
the year?
• What types of professional learning designs do you
facilitate for your school?
• What resources do you have available to support these
professional learning designs?
15. Moving Forward…
• What resources do teachers have available to support
their professional learning needs?
• How can access to online, 24/7 professional learning
assist teachers in meeting deliberate practice growth
targets?

content spread over 850 videos, documents, and
applications!
• Watch real teaching practice videos that educators
can immediately take back to the classroom and

26.
27. Group Management
Group Management makes it easy to create groups of
learners
• A group is a collection of Teachers created by a PD
Leader and led by a PD Facilitator.
• The PD Facilitator creates assignments for the groups
based on PD needs and goals.
• Groups consist of members from an account who have
access to the same PD In Focus license.
29. Let’s Practice: Create a Group
Select Manage Groups from the Administration tab and follow
these three easy steps.
Step 1: Type the name of your group in the text field and click

about it will be displayed below in Edit Group Profile, where
you can select a PD facilitator.
Step 2: Assign yourself as the PD facilitator.
Step 3: Add available teachers to your group.
30. Assignments
• Get to the heart of the matter. PD facilitators can
create assignments for members who are in groups
assigned to them. Personalize any assignment with your
own directions and comments.
• Point out the most important, relevant parts of a video or
reading; draw connections between multiple resources.
33. Let’s Practice: Creating Assignments

Welcome participants. Explain that the role of the PD Liaison is essential to creating cultures of professional learning at the school site. It is essential that they work closely with the administrative team and PLST members to guide professional learning for teachers that results in improved student learning.

Use this slide to debrief the Chalk Talk Activity and discuss the instructional practices and how effective teachers would exhibit these behaviors in their classrooms.
Cluster responses to form categories and name the groups of categories – refer to the Affinity Mapping Protocol.
Notes to facilitator:
Standards
Make explicit that the purpose of professional learning is for educators to develop the knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions to help students perform at high levels.
Guide the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional learning
Notes to facilitator:
Use this slide to emphasize the cycle of continuous improvement and how professional learning can create changes in educator practice and therefore positively impact student achievement results.
When professional learning is standards-based, it has greater potential to change what educators know, are able to do, and believe.
When educators’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions change, they have a broader repertoire of effective strategies to use to adapt their practices to meet performance expectations and student learning needs.
When educator practice improves, students have a greater likelihood of achieving results.
When student results improve, the cycle repeats for continuous improvement.
This cycle works two ways: If educators are not achieving the results they want, they determine what changes in practice are needed and then what knowledge, skills, and dispositions are needed to make the desired changes. They then consider how to apply the standards so that they can engage in the learning needed to strengthen their practice.
Notes to Facilitator:
Share this slide with participants. Ask them to reflect on professional learning sessions they have provided to peers. Then ask them to reflect and identify the professional learning experience that had the greatest impact on their professional practice. How do these experiences relate to the research presented on this slide?
Notes to Facilitator:
After the title appears and before fly-in, ask participants to use the listed non-negotiables to write their own definition of Deliberate Practice. Solicit volunteers to share their definitions. Now ask for a volunteer to read the definition on the slide.
Notes to Facilitator:
Time: 1 minute Review that Deliberate Practice is 1 of the 3 parts of the IPEGS Summative Evaluation. Deliberate Practice was negotiated with UTD.
Notes to Facilitator:
Ask a participant to read the quote aloud.
Facilitate sharing of reactions and reflections on the quote.
Think about 3-5 possible areas for professional growth.
Notes to Facilitator:
Pause & Reflect-Silently
PD Liaisons will reflect on the 4 questions and share-out.
Notes to Facilitator:

Notes to Facilitator:
Ask participants to log in to MLP. On the left they will see a link to PD In Focus. Click on link to go to ASCD site.
Provide 10 minutes to explore ASCD
Notes to Facilitator:
Once on ASCD site, participants should verify that they are logged in to their profile
On the login page, there is a section for PD IF roles:
Make sure to cover the roles
It can be used independently or in groups; role-based
PD Liaisons are “PD Leaders” (will be done before PD)
Notes to Facilitator:
Share the different roles in PD In Focus and the permissions associated with each role.
PDL, Principal and AP will have roles 1 & 2.
Review above. Some roles have more permissions than others.
Notes to Facilitator:
Highlight that there are 37 channels and over 850 videos in different topics. Such as, Art and Science of Teaching featuring Bob Marzano, Harvey Silver in The Strategic Teacher channel, Carol Ann Tomlinson’s work is featured in the Differentiated Instruction channel.
Content is added continuously
Go over a few channels offered
Featured: James Stronge – maybe want to show a short clip
Easy Navigation across the top:
Home, channels, video programs . . .
Go into the channels tab: this is where we have all of the various channels. Her recommendation is to highlight this tab. There are 37 channels, and they are constantly adding to and revising the channels. She suggests to scroll through the channels and highlight several channels.
They have roughly 850 hours (or videos) of content on the channels
Highlight ASCD Master Class Channel with James Stronge (he is from Miami) – perhaps do a video clip
Also focus on the video programs: they have full-length video on this channel. DVD’s that are included. Can be used to send as assignments as teachers to watch. They can be rated, you can write comments in your journals. They are continuing to add to the full-length videos as well.
Notes to Facilitator: Model first then let them explore for 10 minutes
Looking into a channel more in-depth:
All channels are organized the same way: they start with a description of the channel, what you’re going to learn in the channel.
Under the channel is a sub-channel.
Under PD Resources, there are PF application activities. Can be used in the form of assignments for teachers. Designed for teachers at all levels (beginning and experienced).
If you click on a resource you will see a description of the content.
These are articles pulled from their Ed. Leadership magazine.
Goals (take-aways) outline what teachers should be able to do.
There is an article, then an application activity. After you read the article, you should be able to answer the questions.
These can be used in a PLC meeting (article assigned before) then answer those questions collaboratively. You receive PD credit hours for these as well (through them or us?)
When you assign a video to a teacher, you have to watch it all the way to the end in order to receive credit
All videos are tagged to make searching easier
They give the grade level and instructional setting of each video so you know what you will be watching
Teacher can rate the video and see the overall rating
Each video has 2 follow-up questions. After the teacher answers the questions, they can write their responses in their journal entries
There’s an area at the very bottom to “Mark the video as viewed” so that if the teacher is watching it in a group, the teacher can still receive credit for watching the video
Offers full length videos
There are longer options
Can be assigned to teachers or groups of teachers
Teachers can journal on different topics and answer focus questions
Videos can be rated
Videos can be saved and will be accessible through "My Favorites"
Click on "My Library" to find it
