4. Walter Crane In 1862, Crane met printer Edmund Evans, who was deeply involved with the development of color printing processes. Within a few years, Evans was regularly using Crane's designs for his publications. Walter Crane's work, characterized by static imagery and strong, bold lines, lent itself well to the new printing techniques. It was also well-suited to the production of nursery books -- a booming industry in the late 1860's.
