Evaluation question 6
1. What have you learnt
about technologies from
the process of
constructing this
product?
By Charlotte Simcox
2. In the process of constructing the product I have learnt how
to use a range of new technologies.
I wasn't very experienced with using the apple mac software
before media studies. Making this product has allowed me to
work my way around the system and learn the attributes on
film making.
Since using the Apple Macs system I have learnt about a
range of new technologies.
3. Blogger
While constructing the media
product I have learnt how to use a
blog. I found it difficult to create as I
hadn't used one before.
The software has helped me
explain my research and ideas on
making my thriller opening
sequence. When making an
account you pick your own design
to personalize your page for the
blog posts you are making. When
you send out your posts they are
then published on the internet for
anyone to read.
4. Videoing – Samsung Galaxy
S3
For filming the thriller opening my group
used the Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. I
had used the phone for filming before but
for nothing serious. While using the
phone I found it difficult to use as we
didn't’t have a tripod to hold it still so
some shots we took where quite shaky.
Although we used a phone instead of
camera it still looked good quality and
professional. Filming an opening
sequence seemed to be harder than my
group though as we filmed all of it
portrait. When importing onto the
computer we realized the black boxes on
the side of the clips throughout. After
filming again landscape, the shots were
good and ready to be edited.
5. IMovie
For editing our thriller opening we used
IMovie which is built into the Apple Mac
computers. I had used the software
before briefly for projects I had done at
home but not for editing a real piece of
work.
As a group we had to learn how to use
the software properly in order for us to
edit our clips together.
We found some parts of the program
challenging as the phone wasn’t importing
our clips, after trying several times we
finally got it them on there by using a
memory stick. After that we put our clips
together and constructed the opening with
the new found technology. We learnt how
to make adjustments on clips and audio
and use music on the back of the clips.
We also learnt how to de-attach sound
and add it to other clips.
6. Garage band
Garage band is an application used on
the Apple Mac system. We used this
app to create the music for our thriller.
Using the program was challenging as
we had never used it before. We had to
decide what kind of tones we needed in
order to set the mood, we could then
create them through the keyboard. We
used the Grand Piano on stage so it
would give an echo sound in the back of
the film. We recorded the music while
watching our opening so they would fit
perfectly with our recorded clips. Using
the app allowed us learn how to make
our own music to fit in perfectly with a
movie.
7. Slideshare
Slideshare allows you to post
slide shows online. You create
your document on PowerPoint
and then upload it to the site to
make it available for people to
see online. I used Slideshare on
my blog to make it more
interactive for my audience. I
found the software easy to use as
I imported my PowerPoint's, I am
experienced with the software so
this made it easy for me to make
them.
8. Prezi
Prezi is a online presentation website.
By making an account you can create
your own presentation by adding text,
images and videos. You add frames in
the order you want them in so they are
separated into layers so when it plays
it’s in your chosen sequence. This
allows the audience to follow along
and understand your presentation. At
first I didn't’t understand how to use
the online program but I then watch
some tutorials and it became easy and
understandable to present work on.
